The Fiona and John Mallard Trust for Physics and Engineering in Medicine was set up in 2020 by Professor John Mallard and funded by a generous bequest following his death in 2021. John was well known for his many contributions to medical physics. for his research, particularly in MRI, his involvement in many professional societies and his commitment to education. The aim of the Trust is to further education in medical physics. It funds an Annual Lecture and medal to be given at the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine’s Science, Technology and Engineering Forum. Of particular interest to the younger members of IPEM are annual travel grants which it makes to enable an early career research fellows to present their work at conferences organised by IPEM, EFOMP, IOMP or IUPESM, organisations with which John was closely involved. The grant is advertised by IPEM and normally covers all reasonable costs incurred in attending the meeting.
