The Trustees present their annual report and financial statements for the year ended 31 August 2024.

rinancial statements and Comp￿ with the chaWs constitution. the Charibes and Trustee Investment (Scotlandl
Act 2005, the Charrties Accounts (Scotlandl Regulations 20(￿ las amended) and 'Accounting and Reporting by
Charities". Statement of Recommended Practice applirable to chanties preparing their accounts in accordance
with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Repubts'c ol Ireland IFRS 1021" leffective 1

ObJectlve8 and ocUv1t￿
The aim of the church is the advancement ol the Christian failh and to serve and support the local and Christian
communities in East Kilbride, Scolland and beyond. The chuich is affilialed to the Baptist Union ol Scotland and
the Evangelical AllianTr.
Achlovements and ￿rforManC•
The church continued lo meet regularty lor worship and carried out various activities in pursurt of its, aims and
objectives. As a Church we continued to stream services for those unable to attend in person.
The continued pursurt of our 10 year 5trategy"A New way of Living
The church continued rts actNe involvement in community projects and setvice through a food bank,
working in conjunction wth other churches in East Kilbnde where members ol the community visit eath
week for both a food parcel and support.
The church is a150 actively engaged with the communty in a CAP Ichristians against Povetyl initiative
providing debt advice. financial management and budgeting courses in the community.
A numbèr of communrty activiti¢s induding a Wellbein9 Cafe set up to crèate a quiet friendly
environment for those experiencing or recovering from mental health issues, loneliness or isolation. In
addition, a Chit Chat Cale was fomied to provide a regular support group within the cKJmmunty.
The church has released rts facililies to a significanl number of communty projects managed by The
Village Centre. Scottish Charity No. SC037829.
The support and partnership with The Village Centre which prnvtdes a centr& for lh& communlty in East
Kilbride, was further developed during the year.

The church receives its funding from thurch members and attendees by way of offerings and Gift Aid donations.
Results for the year
Per the Statement ol Financial Activities on p8ge 5. the thurch reported Net Income li.e. 8 Surplus) for the year
of £116,298 influenced by the receipt of a legaLy during the year lolalling £140.86012023- Sutplu5 £8,039).
At 31 August 2024, the church had tolal funds of £591.925 of which £256.886 was tied up in property and other
rixed assets.

Reserves Policy
It is the policy of the church to maintain unrestricted fvnds. i.e. fvnds not committed or invest&Y in fixed assets. al
level that equates to three month5 of unrestricted expenditure. The combined closing balances at 31 August
2024 of the church's General Fund and Reserve Fund IDesign*ed} amounted to £526,837 12023 - £423,734)
which was acceptable to the Trustees.
Grdnt Maklng Pollcy
The church makes grants from its income to individuals and organisations that are generally known to the
Trustees 8nd the thurch. The benefiu'aries are involved in activities or ministsies compatible Mrith the church's
objectives.

The Trustees have assessed the mawr risks to the charity is exposed, and are satisfied that systems are in
place to mitigate exposure to the maior risks.

East Mains Baptist Church SCIO is a registered Scottish Charity (No. SC0505851. The principal address is
10-12 Maxwell Drive. East Kilbride G74 4HG.
1.1 Accounting convention
The financial statements have been prepared in acCOrdar￿ with the charitys Constitution. the Charities and
Trustee Investment (Scotlandl Act 2005. the Charilies Accounts Iscollandl Regulations 20[￿ las amended)
and "Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Ststement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities
preparing their 8ccounts in 8ccord8nce wrth the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and
Republi¢ of Ireland IFRS 1021" la$ amended lor a¢countsn9 pen￿￿5 cofflrnen¢ing from 1 J8nu8ry 20191. The
charity Is a Public Benefit Entity as defined by FRS 102.
The charity has taken advantage of the provisions in the SORP for chantses applying FRS 102 Update
Bulletin 1 not to prepare a Statement of Cash Flows.

The financial statements have been prepared under Ihè historkal cost convention. The principal accountlng
policies adopted are set out below.
1.2 Golng concern
At the time of approthng th8 financial statèmenls. Ihè Trustees have a rèasonable expectatlon that the charity
has adequate resources lo continue In operational existence for the foreseeable future. The Trustees consider
there are no material uncertainties about the charity's abilrty to conts.nue as a going concern. Thus the
Trustees continue to adopl the going concem basis of accounbng in preparing the financAal statements.

1.4 Income
Income Is ￿cognised wtten the chanty is legalty entiued to it after any perfomiance conditions have been met,
the amounts can be measured reliabty, and it is probable that income VAII be received.

of the ¢Jonation, unless perfomance condrtions require deferral of the amount. Income tax recoverable in

Gift Aid
Income tax recoverable on Gfft Aid donations is recognised when the respective donation has been
recognised and the recoverable amount of income tax can be measured reliabfy.. this is normally when the
donor has completed Ihe relevant Grfl Aid declaralion fomi. Income tax recoverable on Grfi Aid donations 15
allocated to the same Ivnd as the respective donation unless specrfied by the donor.

Income from charitable activities includes income eamed both from the supply of goods and services under
contractual arrangements and from performance-related grants which have condrtions that speafy the

contractual provisions of the instrument.

1.11 Retlrement benellts
P8yments to deffined conlribulion retiremenl benefft sthemes are charged as an expense as they fall due.
The Glarity participates in the Baptist Pension Scheme where retirement benefrts to employees ol the church
are funded by contributions from all participating members of the scheme. Payments are made in accordance
wbth periodic calculations by consutting actuaries and are based on pension costs applicable across all the
participating churches. taken as a whole. The scheme is conSide￿d to be a murtiemployer scheme as
described in Section 28 of FRS 102. As it is not possible to a￿lbUle the Stheme's 8ssets and li8bilities to
spe¢ifi¢ employers, the scheme 1$ 8¢¢ounted for as rfthe S¢heme were a defined ¢ontribution scheme.
The Scheme still has a defiat liabilty wrth agreed deficrt contributions being made and charged to the Penslon
ReseNe Fund. Note 18 provides further infom)ation aboul pension obligations.

18 Retirement benefit obligations
The churth is 8 Participating employer partirypating in the Baptist Pension Scheme Iyhe Scheme'l. which is a
separate legal entity administered by the PensM)n Trustee (Baptist Pension Trust Limitedl. The assets of thè
Stheme are held separatety Irom those ol the Employer and the other parti(Jpatsng empltsyers.
The Scheme, previousty known as ihe Baptisl Minislers. Pension Fund. started in 1925, but was dosed to
lulure accrual of defined benefits on 31 December 2011. Prior lo this date. the rnain benefit provided through
the Defined Benefrt IDBI Plan was a pension of one eightielh of final minimum pensionable income for each
year of pensionable service together with addityonal pension in respect of prernium5 paid on Pension*le
Income in ex¢ess of Minimum Pensionable Income.
From January 2012. pensh)n provision is being made through the Defined Contribution (DCI Plan within the
Scheme. In general. members pay 8% 01 their Pensionable Income and employers pay 6% 01 members,
Pensionable Income into indivKlual pension accounts. which are operated and managed on behalf of the
Pension Trustee by Broadstone Corporate Beneffts Ltd. In addits'on. the employer pay5 a further 40/0 of
Pensionable In¢ome lo ¢over Death in Service Benefft5. administration ¢0st5. and an a5s0¢iated in5ur8n¢e
policy which provides in¢omtr protedion lor Schème members in the evènt that they are unablè to work due to
long-term incapacity. This income protection policy has bèen insured by the Baptist Union of Great Bntain with
Aviva Limited. Members of the Basic Section pay reduced contribulions of 5% of Pensionable Income, and
their employers also pay a total of S%.
The Scherne is considered lo be a MUtt￿emploYer Scheme as described in Section 28 of FRS 102. As il is not
Possible to attribute the Scheme's assets and liabilities 10 specific employers, the Scheme is accounted for as
If11 werè a dÈfine¢J contribution s¢hèm¢. Thè pen$ion$ costs charged to the SOFA In the year are contributlons
payable towards benefits and expensès accrued in that year, plus any impact of deficiency contributions (see
b8lowl.
The church's staff members are eligible to join the Stheme.
A¢iuarf81 valuotlon a¥ ot 31 December 2019
A formal valuation of the Defined Benefit ID81 Plan was perfomied at 31 Dec6mber 2019 by a professionally
qualffjed Actuary using the Projected Unrt Method. Al Ihe valuation date, the market value of the D8 Plan
assets was £298 million, whilst the level ol assets needed to pay benefits was £316 million. giving a deficit of
£18 million lequivalent to a pasl seNice funding level of 94%). The chanty and the other employers supporting
the DB Plan are collectivety responsible lor funding this deficit.

Rècovéry Plan
In addition to the contributions to Ihe DC Plan sel out above. where a valuation of the DB Plan reveals a
deficit. the Trustee and the BUGB Council agree lo a rale of deficiency contributions from employers in the DB
Plan. Following the 2019 valuation. a Recovery Plan was signed in September 2020 under which deficiency
contributions are payable unbl 30 June 2026. These con¢ribubons weie broadty based on each ernployer's
mernbership al 31 De¢ember 2014 and increase annualty in line with increases to Minimum Pensionable
Income as defined in the Rules. Howev&r, the Tru$letr and the Council agreed ¥ 50% roduditsn for all
deficiency contributions payable bèfvfftn 1 Juty 2020 and 31 Oècember 2020.
On 30 June 2022, the Baptist Pension Scheme signed an ag￿ernent wrth the insurance company Just GrDUP
I'Just'l to secure DB Plan mernbers, pension beneffts. Just are now providing financial backing for all
pensions provided through Ihe Scheme's DB Plan and. following this transaction. the Scherne no longer has a
shorff811. An updated Recovery Plan was Ihen si9ne(J in August 2022 under which recovtrry eonlribulions from
