Activities

We area group who look after the welfare of Fort William with the help of a larger group of willing volunteers from the community. We organise events throughout the year to improve the area around the town centre including litter picks, planting days , hanging baskets and adhoc fundraising events.

We aim to involve as many people as possible including businesses. Local people give up their time, and we have built relationships with other community groups to collaborate on projects. We work closely with the Fort William Marina and Shoreline Company to support them with volunteers on days cruise ships dock in Fort William. We are becoming a go to group for other smaller groups to offer advice and expertise.

Achievements and Performance

Cruise Ships - This year we welcomed 16 cruise ships into Fort William, their passengers were greeted with local entertainment and lots of other activities to enjoy.

Hanging Baskets - This year we managed to sell 59 hanging baskets to locals and businesses across Lochaber, and we also donated 1 (in memory) to a long-standing volunteer who unfortunately passed away this year. We are brightening up the Parade and High Street for locals and visitors to enjoy and they now only need watering once a week saving on funds.

Sunday Working Days - This year we kept to having a gardening and tidy day every second Sunday of the month. This was a great success, so are keeping with it for another year.

Adopt a Plot - We have several plots around the town which are maintained either by ourselves or local community groups and schools. We fundraise for and supply the flowers. The sundial has grown significantly and now with the new signage is agreat feature to the parade. We would like to thank our volunteer on his dedication to this plot over the last year.

Bowser - Again this year it was a great benefit to have our own bowser which is being used by our gardener to water the hanging baskets and is also used by our voiunteers to water the plots and planters.

Cameron Square Canopy - This year the canopy has been a great asset to the community and has been used on numerous occasions over the summer and particularly this winter for the Christmas light switch on as it was absolutely pouring with rain.

8 Volunteers

The trustees would like to record their thanks to all the volunteers who dedicate a significant amount of time for no remuneration to the charity. Without their help and support the trustees wouldn't be able to achieve any of the work around the town which would have a negative impact on locals and tourists alike. It is fantastic for us to see peoples pride in our town returning and we hear lots of lovely feedback from visitors and locals on how the town has improved since our group has been active.
