We hope you can take some time to understand and appreciate the range of activities we deliver within our local community. All the good work that we have delivered throughout the year would not have been possible without the incredible work from our Community Development Manager and his team of staff and volunteers. This year has been another terrific year for the positive year for the Trust wtth many exciting new projects happening in the North-west including the unveiling of our brand new state-of-the-art 3G facility at Charlotte Street. They have worked tirelessly to support all local partners in improving the lives of people in the Northwest of Dundee and ensured sport plays an active role to everyone. We would like to take the opportunity to thank all partners, funders, schools and of course our members who have come to together collectively to make a differen￿. As always, it's extremely difficult to highlight just one area that has had a positive contribution on our community but the fantastic work going on through our extensive work & in particular around our adult participation with our recreational activity, football fans in training team and of course Walking Westies strand. IwrRODUCTION Another year has flown in and On￿ again I'm proud and privileged to lead to such an incredible team of staff members and volunteers are passionate about making a differen￿ within the Northwest of Dundee. Into only our fourth year as a charity, the hard work and effort that has been going on in the background is truly inspiring and l am so pleased to share our annual report on the positive impact we are having through sport and physical activity. Sport plays a vital role within communities, and we understand our role as a community trust is going to be crucial moving fo￿rd as we begin to understand the "New Living." Huge thanks on behalf of our team to everyone who has played a part in helping us to support those within the local community. I hope you all enjoy reading about our report and some of the projects we have been undertaken throughout 2024. We have made huge strides with increasing sport participation for young people in our school and wider community. We have been able to expand on our variety of adult activities and starting to cater for the needs of our community with healthier lifestyle projects. One of our key projects this year has been our Football Fans In Training programme that has progressed significantly with establishing a brand- new men's team with the incentive of losing weight through football participation. The Trust have work tireslessly connecting with many new partners and now supports hundreds of people each year through projects in the areas of sport for all, healthier lifestyles and learning through football. Our mission is to use the brand of Dundee West Football Club to improve the lives of people in the Northwest of Dundee and the surrounding communities. Our Charitable Objectives are: - ➢ _**The advancement of public participation in sport by providing the opportunity for young people and adults to play football.**_ - ➢ _**To create new opportunities of improving the health, fitness & well-being of people through public participation in physical exercise.**_ - ➢ _**The advancement of education by providing funding & opportunities for the delivery of educational initiatives.**_ - ➢ _**To improve social isolation of people in the community.**_ Became Official Charity of Dundee West Football Club relaunching as Dundee West Community Trust Launched brand new Leaming Through Football project in partnership wtth Craigowl Primary School working wth pupils 5 days perweekto improve health & well- being. Established brand new Extra Time programme in partnership with the Scottish FA and Scottish Govemment recruiting 2 new full-time members of staff. All community projects were transfe￿ed under the Dundee West CT banner. Launched the Trust& first ever Football Fans In Training & Womenb Well-Being Club to expand on their Health strand & reach out to more residents. Launched brand new Wee Westies initiative with weekly physical literacy sessions in each of the local nurseries for free. Created new altemative learning initiative in partnership with St Paul's Academy to support young people improve attainment, behaviour and attendance. The Trust were annoUn￿d as Leisure & Culture Dundee's Changing Lives Winner for the positive contribution to our schools and local partners in the community Launched the School of Football project in partnership with CashBack & the Scottish FA in Baldragon Academy & st Pauls RCAcademy. Working in partnership with the football pathway to create a full pathway in the girls & women's game from Under 6's to the Women's full team under the banner of Dundee West Football Club. *** IntrodU￿d new full time staff members to the team taking the overall total to four employees. ESPRIT The Trust were announced as Best Community Football ForAII Projects by the East Region SFAfor their contribution to additional football activity within the local community. Is Created a new Football Fans in Training team on the back of our partnerslu'p programme wilh SPFL to enable more men to play foothall & improve healthier lifestyles. Extended our fundmg to run another year of our Extra Time Programme at Craigowl PS in partnership with the Scottish FA & Scottish Govenunent. Unveiled our brand new 3G facllity at Charlotte Street called the Dundee Ford Centre CommunityArena creating more opportunities for mernbers to play football all year round. Set a new trust record of running 40 teams across the boys & girls football pathway for the 2024 football season with over 250 registered female participants. Awarded the Best McDonald's Fun Football Centre in Seolland for our efforts increasing opportunities for children to play recreatsonal football. Established new Youth Diversionary projects in the community including a Triday Night Youth Club to support young people stay away trom anti-social behaviour. FOOTBItLL FORILLL PROJECTS *** DUNDEE WES COMMUIVIT is McDonald's & KDM Recreational Footl)all Centres Thanks to the continued support of the Scottish FA we have been able to expand on the delivery of free recreational football centres to more young people across the community. These sessions are a fantastic way for more young people to play football with friends with a fun, safe and nurturing environment and allow children to play freely without the pressures of being part of a team. Skills Centres - Developing Players We have put a focus on developing better players at the trust by delivering football skill centres to improve player technical ability Wlth the ball. This has increased more time for players to practice new skills that can be implemented back to their teams from the support of UEFA Licensed coaches from Dundee West CT. Youth Diversionary Projects Tackling anti-social behaviour has been a key area of development for the trust and over the last 12 months we have delivered new youth diversionary projects in Ardler, Kirkton & Charlotte Street to promote safer places for young people to play within the local community. Football has the power to make positive change and supporting more young people with better opportunities to play with friends has seen a decrease in the number of issues in the community on a weekly basis. HEALTHY LIFESTYLE PROJECTS *** DUNDEE WES COMMUIVIT is MEN'S FOOTBALL FANS IN TRAINING On the back of our SPFL partnership programme, Football frdns in Trdining. We ha4e created a new Men's FF￿teaM support men overweight with getting back into competitive football and find V￿￿5 to improve their Ix)dy image and shape. Football Fans In Training provides football fans with an opportunity to become fitter healthier, and happier at the same time and we have supported over 25 men into playing for our new team with home and away fixtures across Scotland. MEN'S FOOTBALL & WELL-BEING GROUP Early in the year, the Trust established a brand-new Men's football & well-being group to support men struggling with their general health & well-being. The group offers men 16 years + the opportunity to discuss different topics of conversation whilst having the opportunity to play football to improve a healthier lifestyle whilst creating new ways of making friends & connecting with others suffering with similar issues and challenges. Over 20 men meet on a weekly basis at Charlotte St for a game of football. WOMEN'S WELL-BEING GROUP The Trust started a brand-new womens well-being club to support any women interested in improving their health with weekly sessions around improving a healthier lifestyle and talking to new people about changing different parts of their health and having a safe place to chat. This has become hugely popular with over 16 women regularly attending and feeling better about themselves. EDUCATION PROJECTS *** DUNDEE WES COMMUIVIT is SCOThISH FA EXTRA TIME INITATIVE In partnership with Scottish Government & the Scottish FA, Dundee West CT is harnessing the power of football to help to provide invaluable breakfast, after school and holiday activity clubs for primary school aged children. As part of our initiative young people are supported with daily transport to and from school with the opportunity to enjoy breakfast and some physical activates in the morning followed by an afternoon meal after school. The project has been hugely beneficial for families, young people and the school. ALTERNATIVE LEARNING PROJECTS- BALDRAGON & STPAULSACADEMY In partnership with both our secondary schools, we work with young people dis-engaged in school through football interventions that use the power of sport to upskill young people and offer a variety of different methods to learning. The Trust deliver daily sessions for pupils across all years along with work with young people each lunchtime to support with football activities that reduce anti-social behaviour. fights and arguments to support the on-going school day for staff. KEY PARTNERS & FUNDERS A huge part of Dundee West Community Trust's work is being able to work with partners and funders who share the same vision to that of the Trust. We would like to thank each of those organisations who support and contribute to our work in allowing us to make a positive contribution to the Strathmartine area. We look forward to what's next at Dundee West Community Trust. We have achieved something very special this year with the grand opening of our brand new 3G facility but that is us on just starting! ! We now have our sights on developing our Club House to create a community building that can offer more activities and projects that be held indoors including a café and a gym for members to use locally. Significant work has gone into the Trust's educational strand with the introduction of two new members of staff delivering our Extra Time initiative improving school attendance and food poverty in the local community and that work will continue into 2025.. The success of our McDonald's Award has motivated us further to continue increasing more opportunities for children to play football at a recreational level and remove the pressures of playing for teams. Our aim as ever will be to continue to expand our outreach to young people and adults and provide a more projects on our 3G facility that will enable further opportunities to develop the Trust and run activities that benefit the wider community.
