Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of
the charity during the financial period
Main achievements:

2023-24 was a year of relaunch for Music In the Community
SCIO, with the successful award of funding from Creative
Scotland, delivery of a Music in the Park with the Friends of
Saughton Park and the charity Four Square and their Cafe
employment social enterprise.
Music in the Community delivered the following events: 21
local community-based free music events consisting of many
genres including: folk, punk, traditional Scottish, disco, funk,
soul, African, reggae, pop, electronic music events.
These were 20 events at Saughton Park that ran from 14th
January to 30th Sept. MiC also staged a cultural community
event at SCORE Scotland on 29th July, This attracted a wide
audience of Black, Asian, refugee, migrant, minority ethnic and
local Scottish adults. The breakdown of audiences attending
the 20 MiC events in Saughton Psrk included families, young
adults, the elderly, people with disabilities and their carers from
the BME and local Scottish communities.. Mentoring and
supporting the artists and bands for each event.
Overall feedback from each performer and band was very
positive. Attendances for the Four Square Café events in
Saughton Park events averaged 65 per event. 130 local
people and families attended the Score Scotland community
event . The events have attracted an encouraging mix of local
Scottish,Black,Asian and minorityethnicpeople from

Financial review Brief statement of the charity’s policy Music in the Community's policy is to keep a small level of reserves in order to maintain an on reserves essential service to the public and the performance artists and musicians whilst further funding is sought and secured for future operations. The income totalling £9.005.36. This came from the final quarterly payment from Creative Scotland Funding of £3,750, a City of Edinburgh Council Community Grant of £2,000, an Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations Council (EVOC) grant of £2,500, a donation from Roger Horam for £50.00, a donation from James T Howat Charitable Trust of £500.00 and a donation by One Stage Ltd for £200.00 and CAF Bank interest of £5.36. Our expenditure was a mix of artists fees, events costs, hire of equipment, website and social media and some running costs totalling: £7,672.87 We had a surplus of approximately £1,332.49 Details of any deficit We had a surplus of £1,332.49 which was added to cash already in our bank account. Donated facilities and services (if any)
