The trustees of Gala Fairyde8n Rovers CommunityTrust are pleased to presentthis report and annual accounts to our membership. l am happy to report that we have enjoyed another hugely successful period over 2024125 culminating in the Trust being named as Sports Organlsation of the Year at the Galashiels Heartland of the Borders Awards. As a wholly voluntary Trust we are proud of the work that has been undertaken by our team of coaches, volunteers and members which has brought us success on and off the pitch. Background The Trust was established in September 2020 as a charitabLe organisation registered with The Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCRI and is constituted as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIOI. OurAims Over the last five years the Trust has grown, with hundreds of members benefitingfrom its activities and our key aim is to inspire and empower the people of GalashieLs and the Central Borders to live happier, heaLthier and more fulfilLing lives through: Increasing partl¢iP8tion in sport and physical activity and investing in accessible high quality sports services for people of all ages, demographics and socio-economic backgrounds. Improvingthe physical and mental health and wellbeing of our membership. Raising education attainment and creating training and employment opportunities for young people. Providing motivation for people to design and implement social action programm8s in their own communities and championing positivecommunity cohesion. Improving the physicaL and mental health and wellbeing of our membership. Delivering the Scottish Borders only adult para football project. Diverting young people away from and anti-sociaL behaviour. CommunityTrust Sections GFR Academy Under the guidanc8 and hard work of Academy Chair volunteers, we have increased the numbers of teams and players in both the junior and youth sections of the Acsdemy. I would once again particularly like to than or his role as Child Welfare and Protection Officer overthe period since he started in this onerous role and it is welcome to heartha a8 been successful in assembling a t8am of voLunteers to help support him this role. We are also gryafeul to or devoting so much time to the running and administration of the Academy. The importance of sponsorship cannot be underestimated to help cover costs of kit and equipment and the Academy has done weLL in seeking local businesses and companies to help support us in this respect and in some cases national companies too. W8 held another successful annuaL GFR Academy summer presentation day along with our Christmas p8rt1es and fun-days. We have compiled a professionally produced Induction Pack for p8rents and players at the Academy that lays out our ethos and information about the organisation. Th8 GFR Academy worked with Active schools to deliver coaching sessions to new Primary 1 and existing Primary 2 pupils after the school holidays. We aLso, once again, donated kit to Africa through a local charitable organisation, Opportunities Zambia, meaning that GFR kit has made its wayto thre8 African countries, Zambia Malawi and Rwanda over the years. nd histeam of ParalDisablllty Squad Given its growing popularity the squad has now entered a second team into the monthly tournaments organised by the Scottish FA PAN Disability League in Grangemouth. ALong with these competitive matches the squad continue to train on a weekly basis at Netherdale. We have begun the process of expanding the number of coaches supporting the squad which won a bronze medal at the Scottish Learning Di88bility Games at Stirling University in August. We also secured financiaL support for the projectfrom the Scottish Borders Community Mental Health and Wellbeingfund to help the project grow. With support of community partners we were able to organlse a successful Christmas social and subsidise travel and entry to watch the Gala Fairydean Rovers firstteam squad in their Scottish Cup tie in Linlithgow, against Hearts B at Ainslie Park, 8ttend the Scottish Women's Cup Final at Hampden and two Capital Cup clashes between the Hearts and Hibs women's teams at Tynecastle Park in Edinburgh. We have aLso helped souad members access support from a number of agencies to help assistwith addiction. budgeting and both mental and physical health issues. Our coach, Keir Mclver. has been awarded with the Young Coach ofthe Year Award at the CLub Sport Eildon Awards Ceremony. The squad was also featured on the ITV Lookaround Programme with a focus on the positive impact it has had on the life's of players and their families. Walking Football Walking Football continues to attract the Over 50's back into playing sport in both competitive and recreational sessions. Our Over 60's and Over 65's squads participate in th8 National League tournament organised by Walking Football Scotland at the Oriam whilst we continue with our popular daytirne sessions on a Monday and Thursdays. The squad have also undertaken friendlyfixtures, participated in a number of tournaments and organised two highly successful Hugh Nicolson Memorial Tournaments at Netherdale, These tournaments, named in honour of one of our former players who sadly passed away, have seen participating teams travel form all across Scotland arid as far away as Salford and Kent. A group of GFR Walking FootbalLers also attended a tournament held in Mallorca. As with the ParalDisability squad the r3ison d'etre of the squad is not to win trophies but to provide an outlet for the Over 50s to improve fitness, reduce social isolation and a welcoming environment of friendship and camaraderie. In addition to the actuaL sessions the group has organised a series of social events. Thanks to the Walking Football Committee, led by the work they do behind the scenes. or all BorderAmateur Squad The squad enjoyed a sensational season last term. winningthe League (B Division) and Cup (Beveridge) double. Huge credit must go to orforging a young. successful squ8d, most ofwhom have come through Ihe GFR Academy pathwaywho are not just winn8rs but p18y fantastic football. At the end of the season, Welsh received an award to recognise his outstanding contribLJtion to football in his local community. We now have also a new, recreational football group, which fills a gap, primarily for players overthe age of 35 who do notyetwish to makethe move to walkingfootbaLI. The group is made up of a number of voLunteer coaches, individuals with no previous ties to GFR and is 0ft8n augmented by younger players. Women's and Girls Section Thanks to￿nd their team of coaches we continue to organise training for ourwomen's Adult Squad and our younger girl's seGtion. The section has been competing in locally organised tournaments. as nominated for and won the CO8ch of the year at the Celebration ofwomen in Sport Awards in 2024 whilst•as recognised for his overaLI contribution to volunteering when he received an award from the Duke of Buccleuch and Borders Community Action. The Trust r8C8ived support from Barclays Bank and Sported to help with coaching qualifications for the section and we are optimistic we will see continued growth in the section over the next 12 months. In The Community The Trust deliver programmes alongside a wide range of community. business, local authority bodies and charity partners. who are core to our operation and crucial to our success. Our charitable status has aLlowed us to receive grant funding including help towards costs of coach education, covering training costs for families affected by the cost-of- living crisis, expandlng our girls and walking sections, purchasing equipment for the Academy and subsidising travel for the paraldis8bility squad. We continue to develop our community partnership with equaLities charity, Nil by Mouth and provided volunteers to help them facilitate their"Poets and Penalties" competition as part of its'Kiss Bigotry Goodbye, campaign. In addition, the Trust worked with the charityto deliver our ParalDisability Squad Christmas Party. The trust 8Lso worked with Nil by Mouth to deliver a Community Day at the final Gala Fairydean Rovers home Lowland League game of last season, coverlng the cost of free entryfor around 400 supporters who cheered the first team onto a famous, reL8gation avoiding, last gasp victory over BSC Glasgow. During the Gala week, the Trust organised and r8n the Braw Lads Five-a-side football COrnP8tition attended by hundreds of players and supporters. Forthe second year in succession, the Trust workad in conjunction with Scottish Borders Council to deliver training and run a tournament in which vulnerable youngster could benefit from playingfootbalL. The Trust has 8 community partnership with Galashiels Foodbankwhich has seen us donate Easter Eggs, Christmas Selection Boxes and food vouchers for service users. Ih We donated footballs to Burgh Primary School to mark its 150 Anniversary. We are supporting the Town's Christmas Market Celebrations. Headstrong Project We have entered into partnership working with Live Borders through their Headstrong Mental Health in Sport project. It aims to educate 8nd raise awareness of ment8l health and wellbeing for alL of those involved within sports clubs. The project aims to help individuals to feel comfortable to open up discussion surrounding mental health for players, coaches and volunteers. The Trust has been building a List of case studies of players and volunteers who we have actively heLped in this regard and several of our coaching and trustee team participated in accredited training programm8S. Plans Forthe Future The CommunityTru8t operates within the 3G Ar8n8 in Netherdale in the shadow of the A-Listed Spectator Stand designed bY￿we oversaw a project that saw the Trust become 8 conduitfor £1.45 million in giant funding to repair the stand, replace the pitch 8nd install new floodlighting. The Trust is currentlyworking with the Football club, continuing to be actively involved in pursuing further stages of development in improvingthe facilities at Netherdale. Duringthis period the Trust took a significant step towards ensuringfinancial stability by securing Gift Aid monies through the HMRC scheme which allows charitable organisations to claim monies back on donations These additional funds have allowed us to provide over £6kworth of kit to voLunte8r coaches and this year we WILL introduce match funding scheme to encourage fundraising amongst each of our sections to encourage pLayers, c08ches and families to come up with their own unlque ideas to benefit their teams. We will continue to help coaches gain higher levels of SFA coaching quallflcations and improve their own skilLs and life opportunities. We will offer subsidised pLaces to as number of target groups and individuals to help them enjoythe benefits of participation in regular sport. The Trust has established a working party with the football club to expLDre ways of enhancing the sport in the town, improve faciLit18s and deepen our communityfootprint. Conclusion The Trust generates many thousands of hours of community and member benefit each year, notably wlthout employing any members of st8ff to dellverthese. This highlights both the unique power of sport to change and shape lives for the better and the outstanding leveL of commitment, imagination and passion shown by our volunteers and trustees. AIL in all, the GFR family contains over 20 teams - the first team and Amateur squad, all of our Academy squsds playing locally in the SBJFA and in the Edinburgh League (ESSDA), our women's and girls section who have been involved in local tournaments, a recreational football group, an Over 60's and an Ov8r 65's team playing in National Competition at the Oriam in Edinburgh and two teams from our ParalDisability Squ8d competing in the monthly Scottish FA'S PAN Disability League at Grangemouth. The 3G Arena facility is full seven days a we8k with all of the training and fixturas associated with the GFR Community Trust and its teams. We have increased the numbers of players at the Trust and enjoyed a corresponding increase in volunteers at the same time. Running an organisation of this size relying entirely on voLunteers is not without its challenges and we continue to value the role of ourvolunteers above all else at the Community Trust.
