OSCR Report for 2024

April 2024 saw the installation of our new slalom facility on the Union Canal in Edinburgh. After many years of work behind the scenes and support from Colorado Construction and Thomas Johnstone, 23 volunteers attended to install the steel poles and cables needed to suspend our training gates over the water in Edinburgh. This facility is pivotal in supporting our slalom paddlers and allowing our youngsters to quickly build fundamental paddling skills.

Our Young Carers program continues to thrive, we support free places and give similar opportunities to this group as other young people and a break from their caring responsibilities.

Over 220 young people attended our summer holiday kayaking camps.

DIAL Program introduced at ESKC - Diversity, Inclusion, Apprenticeship and Leadership.

Apprentice coaches upskilled by Lead Coaches throughout the year as part of DIAL.

Primary taster events were held with a local Primary School introducing 100 pupils to paddle boarding.

Work with Active schools to ensure pupils at local high schools have some free places, part of DIAL.

6 club members attained their Foundation safety and Rescue Award, allowing them to start on their leadership journey.

Club members race at an international level. U23 Kayak Cross European Champion. U23 Kayak World Champion.

Club attended Scottish Sprint Championships facilitated by our Sprint Coach Marianne Patrick, great results and many medals for our young paddlers.

National Regatta’s in Nottingham attended by club members with many success’s

• Represented GB at Junior and U23 World Championships in Wild

Water Racing.

Athletes attended Divisional slalom events from division 4 to Premier division with success and promotions on the GB national ranking system.

with regular training in Glasgow at Pinkston White water Course and Lee Valley Olympic Course in London.

Regular trips to Kirkcaldy and Linlithgow for local flat water regatta’s

The operational side of the club was busy, artificial grass laid inside our compound to improve underfoot conditions at the club facilities.

Due to Ice and high winds/storms very little outdoor activities during winter months. Some club members are still making regular trips to the River Tay to take advantage of high-water levels. Those in training squads, Scottish and GB still active.

Ladies C1 academy based at ESKC with regular Wednesday sessions and river trips being facilitated and part of our DIAL program.

Meetings with Meggetland Community Sports Hub facilitated and supported to grow the community at Meggetland.
