Our Mission:

Our mission is simple: Rainforest preservation and redemption, biodiversity restoration. Protection with direct action and education with social impact.

Our Strategy:

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I understand” ( An old Chinese proverb).

It's essential to get the general public involved. Ordinary people from all backgrounds and ethical companies. People need to see the destruction with their own eyes and realize that their daily choices make a huge difference.

Our Approach:

Our primary focus is to restore biodiversity and redeem lost land for the rainforest to take over. However, this activity on its own is not enough, we also work hard with local communities involving them in direct action and education of young and old generations. All of our activities are directed to preserve & protect & redeem nature and we are not involved in any humanitarian aid.

Chief Executive’s Report

I am very proud to have founded Justice For Nature in the UK in the year 2020 and join an international effort to preserve our rainforests and natural habitat on this planet. It’s all thanks to my initial visit to Sumatra in 2017 where I came as a volunteer to offer my own time and hands for projects Green & Blue in Indonesia (North Sumatra) run by the organisation Forrest for Children (Founded and based in the Czech Republic) and YHUA - Yayasan Hutan Untuk Anak (based in Indonesia). I was able to see the pure and natural world in its full beauty and richness in life and also the destruction of the forests, endless palm oil fields and ruined land & soil in the name of the world’s economy. The exploitation of local resources, corruption and existential threat to rainforests and the natural world which we won’t be able to survive without! This left me so shaken that after the experience and my return to the United Kingdom, I have decided to start a non-profit organisation and partner up with Forest for Children and YHUA to open a door for the UK public to participate in these projects and help us to do more.

It took some planning and savings to work out the best approach with very limited resources and eventually a decision was made to open a non-profit charitable organisation in Scotland to start our efforts. It took a whole year of waiting before our application was finally approved in August 2020 and we have gained a charity status to start our operation to be immediately hit with an international lockdown caused by the ~y an: ¥)rab 52, 4 : ongoing Covid -19 pandemic, which lasted most of the year making our start very slow and difficult. Especially around a ™.. afi f ; 7 <a , - a ~ <a : 4 financing during these unprecedented times. It was only in July 7aseas ZA ~ —_*; LO ig ae 2021 when we were able to make our first public appearance when covid restrictions had been lifted to some extent. : nd re a

Despite the initial setback with the national lockdown and inability to go out to the public, we have managed to work on our structure, legal materials, website development, structuring volunteer programs for UK, funding platforms, social media channels, finding new suppliers for some of our materials and finding supporters and partners to help fund our organisation and the projects abroad. It’s hard to believe that the first 12 months are behind us and it’s time to look back and see what has been achieved and the much work ahead of us to help us to achieve our goals and objectives.

Performance

To achieve our goals, we are participating in Projects “Green Life '' and “Blue life”, both focus on different environmental issues we are facing today. Green life focuses on rainforests with its private rainforest reservations that are expanding every year and associated Anti-poaching & Intervention team Green Patrol to protect and monitor the area. “BlueLife '' focuses on marine life, it aims to clean beaches and the sea from plastic pollution and other garbage. Blue Life has its anti-poaching & intervention team called “Blue Patrol” to monitor the operational area for illegal activity to minimize and eliminate illegal fishing & poaching. Our projects also focus on education including outreach to local communities about nature and its importance. Both projects have been founded by Forrest for Children and we are very proud to join this effort now on an international scale.

Cooperation and partnership with FOREST FOR CHILDREN ( FFC ) and YASAN HUTAN UNUK ANAK (YHUA)

It would not be possible to start our endeavour without trust and partnership with FFC who allowed us to use their existing data, web and plenty of photographic material with basic concepts of their operation and guidance. I would like to thank the president of FFC Milan Jeglik and the team for letting us use a lot of the existing material that we would not be able to obtain otherwise.

PICTURE: Milan in Sumatra – 2016

The same massive thank you goes to Zbynek Hrabek who is responsible for managing both projects in Indonesia with complete oversight. He has dedicated his life to these projects and has been living in Sumatra since 2016. Zbynek became our volunteer supervisor for both projects Green & Blue and he has been more than helpful in providing regular reports on activities, current issues, and achievements in Indonesia and the local organisation YHUA.

Preserving Rainforest and private reservation Green-life.

Private rainforest reservation Green Life was established in 2009 on the borders with National Park Gunung Leuser in North Sumatra, the bohorok region. Currently, it has an area of 175.5 Hectares and 2 rainforest camps serving as a base for volunteers and anti-poaching team Green Patrol. Tropical rainforests play a vital role in the stability of the climate and the availability of freshwater worldwide. Rainforests are enormous natural factories, recycling and storing carbon, and producing oxygen. Trees draw vast amounts

of water and release it into the atmosphere as vapour, forming clouds that reflect solar radiation and can travel great distances before falling as rain. During the last century, we have lost so much natural rainforest due to demand for wood, plantations, and agriculture. Illegal logging and poaching are still major problems adding to systematic destruction even in the protected areas that should not be touched.

Green Life’s success

The Green Life project has been a major success, most of this land was acquired from farmers and locals and returned to nature to take over…it started only from 4 hectares and expanded to this amazing scale thanks to public support and the very hard work of Forrest for Children in the last decade. Not just that this land has been completely transformed by nature, but wild animals returned including the Sumatran Tiger, species that are near extinction. Reservation Green Life also acts as a buffer zone between national park Gurung Leuser providing an additional layer of security to the national park. We are pleased to say that we will be sending our first financial support in hoes , P) ‘ . a ¥ 2 September 2021 that was acquired from supporters in the UK. Our goal for next year is to get UK 4 Wg Fey ? y ze . ‘Be > volunteers in the reservation Green Life for a lifechanging experience and establish long-term supporters for the program. Green Patrol and Tiger guard

Green Patrol is a local ranger team made out of 4 men whose responsibility is to monitor the area of the reserve, discover and prevent poaching, cooperate with the local authorities, locals and act as a prevention team for conflicts between wild animals and grazing animals & farmers. There were several incidents, especially in 2020 and 2021 where few tigers found a likelihood of killing grazing animals at the borders of the National Park. The Green Patrol was

involved in many cases providing full documentation and public outreach with a plan to prevent these incidents from happening including active response, 24 hours a day availability for an emergency. YHUA and Justice for Nature prepared a long-term solution for a project named “Tiger Guard” with a plan of action. We are in the stage of acquiring supporters and finances for the project to take off. We have managed to gather some support from individuals via an online fundraising campaign which will be sent over in September

2021 to help at least with some of the equipment. The Green Patrol monthly running cost is mainly funded by organisation FFC. In 2022 we would love to be able to help more and get the “Tiger Guard” project off the ground with so much needed equipment and monthly support. The iconic and only Sumatran Tiger is at stake.

Blue Life vision & plan for 2022

Blue Life project was established in 2017 in Paulo Banyan archipelago, this project started as a need for the protection of local turtle nests which were endangered by poachers and to deal with the ridiculous amount of plastic on these islands. The program was established by volunteers and later linked with Green life project for combined Volunteer programs called Green & Blue. Volunteers spend 2 weeks in Green life reserve and the other two on these islands helping to collect plastic garbage and transport this to the mainland for processing. The so-called “Blue Patrol” was later established to patrol the area against illegal fishing and poaching. The program has been very successful with great results until Covid restrictions put a complete stop to volunteer programs and the project lost its main source of funds. Development in the UK

Since acquiring a charity status in late August 2020 we have been working hard to have local charity bank accounts via the Bank of Scotland. Surprisingly, this took months because of the restrictions in place by the Bank of England for opening a new business & charity account during the national lockdown. Eventually, in February 2021, we had our official bank accounts open and operational. This one event seriously delayed other developments as it took 6 months from our establishment to acquire an incorporated working bank account. During the first 6 months, we have managed to register ourselves with PayPal and PayPal Giving Fund to be the main engine and payment platform for donors & supporters, later in the year, we had a few small fundraising events via the platform. Amazon Smile and eBay were also added to our portfolio including GoFundMe, supporters can now directly fund our projects via Amazon smile and eBay while shopping online. We believe that these platforms will make a huge difference in the UK once we establish more public recognition. Charitable Facebook is also on the list, unfortunately, we are still waiting for approved status from Facebook which has been now going on for months and it still hasn’t been resolved. Fingers crossed it will be done by end of 2021.

8

During the first year, we have managed to order some presentational and supporting material to help us fundraise. We now have T-shirts, campfire mugs, project badges and donation certificates. These can be now purchased to support the charity and the projects abroad. Also, we have applied and got donations

from Microsoft and Google in a form of free software which we are very grateful for. Microsoft is going to be the main platform for sharing data with our teams in the field.

Finally, in July 2021 when restrictions were lifted, we had our first public appearance at a Vegan festival in Glasgow with an opportunity to speak to the public about our programs, projects abroad and organisation in general. We already have several events planned for the next quarter and fingers crossed that there won’t be another lockdown. Our next essential step is to acquire volunteers in the UK to expand our organisation and take it to a new level. Support from volunteers with specific skills helping in certain areas such as social media, web design or content development, will greatly improve our organisation.

PICTURE: Tomas at the Glasgow Festival – July 2021.

Volunteer Programs

There is no way to express how much we are in need of volunteers, we have been working very hard to make these programs available directly via the UK charity, which is now possible. People can apply to volunteer in Indonesia or Costa Rica including all the accommodation and meals provided. The only stumbling block that stands in our way is covid-19 restrictions making travelling very difficult to these countries, especially Indonesia which is currently closed for travel. The volunteer program in Slovakia which is part of the Eye of the Earth monitoring project will be available to the UK public from 2022.

Public Benefit

Justice For Nature exists to preserve & redeem the natural world. We believe that rainforests and biodiversity play a vital role in keeping our world stable and healthy. Our natural world has been exploited and polluted in the name of the world economy and so-called progress with the misleading idea of infinite growth on our finite planet. We have very few truly biodiverse rich places left and to us, rainforests and clean seas need to be preserved at all costs. All life on this planet depends on that including the life of humans.

11

Financial Review

As this is our first year, and we have just put the foot in the door sort of speak, there are no big finances to review. We have received no grants of any kind and no government support. The organisation is entirely funded by public donations and all work is done voluntarily.

13

Any donations made towards our Projects, whether it is Safe the Rainforest, Anti-Poaching Patrols or Eye of the Earth go only toward the cause.

At least 95% of the donation reach its destination. 2-5% is usually lost in PayPal fees or transferring the fees abroad.

We have managed to raise £302.45 from individual contributions towards the anti-poaching Patrols and £129.66 towards the private reservation green life . This will be sent over to the local entity YHUA in September as an awarded Grant.

Covid-19 Concern

The local Indonesian organisation YHUA which fulfils the wishes of Justice for Nature has been solely funded by Forrest for Children up till now. The financial situation of the local organisation has been increasingly difficult due to the ongoing pandemic, lack of volunteers and limited public funding. Some operations had to be limited to a survival mode, especially Blue life Project and its “Blue Patrol”. Currently, there is no funding to sustain the operation with limited funding.

We are hoping to change this and find sponsors for our proposed vision of Blue life for 2022.

Free reserve

The charity has no employees, and all work is done on a volunteer basis. We have no debt and only spend funds as we acquire them. Our main income is from public donation and as this is a very uncertain income, especially during the pandemic, the ongoing cost of our charity and its associated expenses, which are very little to start with, are secured by our trustees in the form of donations. The reserve is currently unnecessary. However, this will be reviewed every year as the organisation grows and a reserve might be necessary for the future.

Future Plans

Our organisation plans activities looking for long term sustainability for our projects in light of Covid-19 to ensure continuous work for our team abroad. We need to acquire sponsors and partners in the UK for the future development of our programs. Investigate several methods of fundraising whether it’s face to face, online or at events for viability. We are developing a new dedicated web for UK and methods our outreach to the public.

Governance & Constitution

Justice For Nature has a board of 3 unpaid trustees, which are the only members of the organisation and are responsible for its operation with powers to delegate the day-to-day management of the organisation governed by its constitution.

The charity is Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) Reg: SC050382 (Registered in Scottish Charity Register)

During the first year, we have managed to order some presentational and supporting material to help us fundraise. We now have T-shirts, campfire mugs, project badges and donation certificates. These can be now purchased to support the charity and the projects abroad. Also, we have applied and got donations from Microsoft and Google in a form of free software which we are very grateful for. Microsoft is going to be the main platform for sharing data with our teams in the field.

Achievements and Performance (continued)

Finally, in July 2021 when restrictions were lifted, we had our first public appearance at a Vegan festival in Glasgow with an opportunity to speak to the public about our programs, projects abroad and organisation in general. We already have several events planned for the next quarter and fingers crossed that there won’t be another lockdown. Our next essential step is to acquire volunteers in the UK to expand our organisation and take it to a new level. Support from volunteers with specific skills helping in certain areas such as social media, web design or content development, will greatly improve our organisation.

Financial Review

At the period end the charity had unrestricted cash reserves of £650. The main income is from public donations and as this is a very uncertain income, especially during the pandemic, the ongoing cost of our charity and its associated expenses, which are very little to start with, are secured by our trustees in the form of donations. The Trustees have not yet set a reserves policy this will be reviewed on an annual basis.

Impact of Covid-19

The local Indonesian organisation YHUA which fulfils the wishes of Justice for Nature has been solely funded by Forrest for Children up till now. The financial situation of the local organisation has been increasingly difficult due to the ongoing pandemic, lack of volunteers and limited public funding. Some operations had to be limited to a survival mode, especially Blue life Project and its “Blue Patrol”. Currently, there is no funding to sustain the operation with limited funding. We are hoping to change this and find sponsors for our proposed vision of Blue life for 2022.

Future Plans

Our charity plans activities looking for long term sustainability for our projects in light of Covid-19 to ensure continuous work for our team abroad. We need to acquire sponsors and partners in the UK for the future development of our programs. Investigate several methods of fundraising whether it’s face to face, online or at events for viability. We are developing a new dedicated web for UK and methods our outreach to the public.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF JUSTICE FOR NATURE FOR

THE PERIOD ENDED 31 AUGUST 2021

I report on the accounts of the charity for the period ended 31 August 2021, which are set out on pages 12 to 15.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006.

The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and

  3. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

have not been met, or

  1. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
