We have continued to receive a lot of support from the Dundee communities. We aim to carry on active recruiting to continue to grow our Orchestra.
We continue to seek funding to allow us to provide a Musical Director, provide free instrument hire, repairs servicing and help with tuition thus allowing us to continue to be fully inclusive.
We plan more public performances and support our musicians as much as possible, and also to hold fundraising performances.
Previous Anonymous feedback from a member of our orchestra:
“| am generally quite a shy person and I've struggled with anxiety my whole life. It took me so long to feel like myself again after the pandemic, because for the longest time | only felt safe when in the confides of my own home. Joining DCYO gave me a reason to pick up my violin and leave my house after years of being scared to do so. | look forward to seeing the friends I've made here every single week. They make me so happy. There is a special kind of friendship you make by playing music with people. The friends | have here will be friends that| have for life.
Growing up as a child in poverty, Dundee Schools free music lessons and instrument hire are the sole reason | am able to be a musician today. Now that I'm an adult and money is still tight, | felt embarrassed being unable to join the university music society because of fees and | really appreciate being able to join a music society that is free. | have become so confident playing my primary instrument that | have been able to experiment with another instrument that DCYO have hired out to me free of charge. Not only is this just a cool thing to do, but it has broadened my musical skillset so much that my confidence has grown exponentially”.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Dundee Community Youth
Orchestra $C050225
| report on the financial statements of Dundee Community Youth Orchestra for the period ending 1 July 2024 to 30" June 2025.
Respective responsibilities of the trustees and Independent Examiner
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended), The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner’s statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently | do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent Examiner’s Statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
-
which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations
have not been met, or
- to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
