- The advancement of education

- The advancement of citizenship or community development

## **Summary of the main activities in relation to these objectives:**

SCDN's mission is to be a strong, dynamic organisation which provides a forum for community development practitioners, paid or unpaid, to share experiences, exchange information, discuss and debate practice and policy issues, within a framework which seeks to empower communities.

The key purpose of community development work is to collectively bring about social change and justice, by working with communities to:

- Identify their needs, opportunities, rights and responsibilities Plan, organise and take action

- Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the action

This will be done by continually challenging oppression and tackle inequalities, staying true to our beliefs that community development should be rooted in values and principles.

## **Achievement & Performance for 2024**

## **CD practitioners are better connected and have a stronger collective voice to represent their views and perspectives.**

- We continue to provide opportunities for practitioners to connect with each other through our events, regional networks and social media.

- We continue to represent our members views through circulation of our annual reports and within partnership structures, such as the Community Development Alliance in Scotland

- We have written to 4 government ministers, highlighting the huge gap between democratic structures and communities

- We are planning to develop a more strategic and visible approach to highlighting the issues affecting practice and affecting communities.

## **CD practitioners have a national forum to share information, knowledge and experience to help them improve and develop practice that empowers communities**

* Steady increase in membership and contact list and social media presence which extends our reach with practitioners across Scotland - 539 members, 599 contacts, 464 Facebook followers and 1866 Twitter

- We post regular items across all social media platforms which is an effective way of sharing information and knowledge amongst our membership.

* Board members and our CD consultant attended several events and meetings over the period, including: Community Development Alliance Scotland (CDAS) board meetings and events. We maintain strong links and relationships with members and key partners to strengthen community development practice through shared learning.

*Continual growth and steady participation in SCDN activities by CD practitioners helps strengthen the network and

provides a strong foundation to help members improve their practice through peer support and the exchange of practice

## **CD practitioners will be better able to inform and contribute to CD related policy and practice development**

- We continue to compile and circulate our e-bulletins to members on a regular basis. This provides members with information on CD related policy and practice issues and developments.

- We continue to support and develop opportunities for practitioners to come together and discuss their practice and current policy initiatives.

- We continue to support our 4 regional networks:- Dunbartonshire, Ayrshire, Fife and Greater Glasgow.

- Our regional network meetings continue to provide opportunities for members to share any practice issues

- All of our network meetings and regional events are co-produced with local practitioners

- Our regional event in Fife held on 25 September was well attended with good dialogue and discussion and attracted many ‘new participants’
