**Objectives:** The purposes of the organisation are, so far and only so far as the same are legally charitable, to promote the advancement of the cultural and natural heritage of the southern part of the Scottish Borders for public benefit. In pursuit of these objectives it will seek to engage in a wide range of activities including :  4.1 Advocating the designation of a National Park in the Southern Scottish Borders to increase the resilience of the area’s fragile rural communities and their economy, and to assist in the preservation and enhancement of the area’s natural capital 4.2  Planning and delivering projects which will advance the cultural and natural heritage of the area, and its continuing socioeconomic vitality, where appropriate with partner organisations and community groups, to demonstrate how a National Park could serve the area’s interests. 4.3 Obtaining support, including funding, volunteer help, and whatever else may be required, to deliver the afore mentioned project. 4.4 Reporting and publishing outcomes of such projects. 4.5 Giving encouragement, publicity and, where possible, assistance, to projects led by other organisations which support or complement the activities and purposes of the SCIO. 4.6 Advancing public education and understanding of the concept that a Southern Scottish Borders National Park could contribute to the quality of life, health and wellbeing of those living in, working in, and visiting, the area.
