Governance

Craigmillar Now is a single-tier Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) and is governed by a constitution.

Trustee Recruitment and Appointment

Chair’s Statement

It has been another great year for Craigmillar Now. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the work of everyone who contributes to its success: our volunteers, dedicated staff (old and new) and trustees. I would particularly like to thank our director,

, who works tirelessly on the ground and who has also successfully fundraised in an extremely difficult fundraising climate. Our work couldn’t continue without the support of our funders: National Lottery, Creative Scotland, Heritage Lottery, Robertson Trust and Edinburgh Council.

This year has seen the start of some innovative projects, including the start of the Darkroom Garden which wonderfully blends photography and gardening. The year has also seen the continuation of some of our long-running programmes, including Seen & Heard where we work in partnership with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. We have also worked with Glasgow School of Art on the show at Glasgow International. This show has brought wider recognition to her work and was undoubtedly a highlight of our year. The work of our Archive Group continues to be the backbone of everything we do and provides a template for others starting community archive work. I’m proud that these projects, and others, open up arts and local history to the wider Craigmillar community whilst bringing new ideas to the arts and heritage landscape.

In the last year the board has completed governance training, instituted a risk register and reviewed our financial reporting. I’d like to thank our treasurer, , for her dedicated work on the accounts which has strengthened the work of the board and indeed the work of Craigmillar Now. Over the next year we will continue to look at how we can support local artists, particularly those from underrepresented communities, and exhibit our collections both within and outside of Craigmillar. We will increase our work with the BPOC community, women, New Scots and young people. To do this we will necessarily have to grow our staff and increase capacity. The board will also grow, ensuring this is done whilst making our board more diverse and improving the induction process.
