SOUTHAYRSHIRESWIM TEAM TRUSTEES REPORT YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2025

Charitable purposes

The purpose of South Ayrshire Swim Team (SAST) is the advancement of public participation in sport. The Club's Mission is "Striving for excellence in swimming, allowing all swimmers to achieve their full potential".

The Club's Mission is underpinned by the core values of Participation, Opportunity, Achievement, Respect and Inclusivity. These values are at the heart of everything the club does and ensure that effort, commitment, teamwork and performance are valued and rewarded in equal measure.

Activities and achievements

SAST Pathway

SAST has four different Pathways for swimmers to be a part of. They include the Para, Club, Competition and Performance Pathways. The different pathways have a different focus, allowing us to group swimmers by similar needs, ability, commitment level, age and goals. This means that irrespective of a swimmers situation, we have opportunities and availability for them to be part of the club.

The Para Pathway allows athletes with a wide range of disabilities to train within a club environment. We also have the Opportunity to integrate our Para athletes within our mainstream squads if this is the option for their swimming development.

The Club Pathway covers a wide range of swimmers, from entry level to Masters swimmers:

The Competition Pathway is where swimmers develop their ability to train whilst competing regularly, with the aim of improving performance levels to allow them to enter higher level meets, at Regional, District and National. Our Senior Performance 1 Squad has tighter criteria and a focus at an even higher performance level at Scottish, British and International meets.

Club Structure

The club is managed by an elected management committee comprising an Executive Committee (Club Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Finance Manager) and up to 10 committee members. The role of the Committee is to ensure the smooth running of the club day-to-day and provide a safe environment for its members. The committee represents the views of the club members and supports the coaching staff in the delivery of the program. Committee meetings are held every 6 weeks. The management committee report back to the board of trustees who have overall responsibility for the running and governance of the charity.

Development

2024 saw the club open up applications to become Club Captain. We had a positive response, and as such, decided to create the role of Vice Captains creating a large team. Club Captains were fF with Vice Captains were

The 2024 SAST Awards Night was a fun and enjoyable evening which took place at Ayr Town Hall. The evening provided the club with the opportunity to celebrate the success of our swimmers and volunteers from across the full club.

We hosted an online Sports Nutrition Seminar via Zoom. Athlete Focused ran the seminar and provided very useful information to our members regarding nutrition in and around training and competitions.

Development (cont.)

October 2024 saw our second warm weather camp take place in Torremolinos. The primary purpose was to provide a challenging training week for our swimmers. The camp had many other benefits, and it was a brilliant bonding experience for the swimmers, and it has helped enhance the performance culture within the squads. We are taking a year off in 2025, but it will form part of our training camp plans in future years. The coaching team continued to evolve, with, joining to support the Transitiona continuing to support overall development and ae: selected on to Scottish Swimmin ou Academy asa coach.

We are currently exploring a partnership with Move Better (physiotherapist). We are hoping that they will be able to provide screenings for our athletes which will lead to tailored and specific land based plans to ensure that our swimmers are healthy, strong and robust enough to be able to cope with the training loads required.

One major area of success this season has been our army of volunteers, especially our officials who help at all the meets that we attend. And well done to all our officials who have upskilled and qualified in new roles this year, in particular Sheena Currie who is now a fully qualified Referee. Our presence on poolside does not go unnoticed and we are grateful to every person who has given up any time to support our club and swimmers. Thank you.

Competitions

The calendar was extremely busy, especially in the lead up to SNAGS, and whilst we aimed to manage everyone's workload (swimmers, parents and coaches), there is still a little way to go to do this successfully and we will be reviewing the calendar ahead of the 2025/2026 season.

There was an increased number of meets with Friday evening Distance (800m/1500m Free) sessions on, which is a positive to getting swimmers the opportunity to race these events, but also present some additional challenges logistically for the coaching team.

Once again, we ran our very successful home meets — the one-day SAST Graded Meet in October 2024, the one-day SAST Mini Meet in January 2025 and the two-day SAST Open Meet in June 2025. All our events ran very successfully and are continually well supported by other clubs, and we thank them for this. Our meets are also well supported by officials and our volunteers, and we thank everyone that contributed to the smooth running of these competitions as they are vital to the club in several different ways. There are several important roles at these events that we will be looking to fill in the coming months, any help from any parents across the club would be appreciated. We also had many younger and older swimmers volunteering across all three meets making a massive contribution in the process.

We also continued with our internal competitions - time trials, Jewels in the Pools, Sprints Meet and the Xmas Fun Nights - for the benefit of all our swimmers.

One new competition was a 3-Club Meet where we partnered with East Kilbride and Dumfries to offer a fun, nonpressurised environment for our swimmers to race and gain vital experience. It has been a success so far and we look forward to this continuing into the future.

Scottish Swimming National League Finals 2024 - our A Team qualified for the A Final, finishing in 7th place. Our B Team qualified for the C Final, finishing in 6th place.

Mini League 2025 — we won our first 3 rounds, meaning that we qualified for the A Final and finished in 5th place with M&B taking the win.

The number of swimmers entering meets has been very healthy this year. This bodes well for the future competitive side of the club.

Competitions (cont.)

We also attended some ‘away' meets - Senior Performance 1 raced at the North District SC Open Meet in November, travelling together on a minibus and staying together over the weekend as a team. This continued into long course season with different opportunities available at the Sunderland New Year Meet, the Sheffield Mad March Meet and the Manchester Arena Open Meet. We also had 4 senior swimmers attend the McCullagh International Swim Meet in Bangor, Northern Ireland, on their own as an opportunity to prepare themselves for their future at university. Youth Competition 1 raced at the ELST Meet in February, requiring an overnight stay.

Our Para Pathway developed a much more structured meet calendar, providing our swimmers mor i race each month. This was led b\NI eo.[team][enjoyed][their][racing,][and][ we] Para[ could see] Squad coach,[lots][of] and[progress] supported[across] _[ the][season.]

The club also supported the Scottish Down Syndrome Swimming Festival at the end of June. The meet was organised through Down Syndrome Swimming GB, with support from South Ayrshire Council and us. It is a great event and was a fantastic opportunity for Down Syndrome swimmers from across the country to get involved in the competitive side of the sport. It was brilliant to see a couple of swimmers being identified to take the next steps in the development into the DSS GB pathway. We are delighted to be able to support this meet.

Club Support

The club is in partnership with South Ayrshire Council and are very grateful for their continued support in 2024/2025. This is only possible due to their willingness to be innovative in our working arrangement, which we will be continuing to evolve further in future years.

This last season all SAST members became South Ayrshire Leisure members, and as a club, we will ensure that all swimmers have this membership in place.

The club has great support from its members and parents. We have many different roles needing to be completed within the club and our parents are fantastic with the time and effort that they contribute for the benefit of our members. This has been very evident in the last season, with a fantastic number of SAST officials and volunteers at every meet that we attend.

The club has regular fundraising efforts which all members are encouraged to participate in. The club operates an ongoing bonus ball competition. And our main fundraising efforts were our SAST meets as well as our Quiz Night, which was nice addition.

2025 saw the finalisation of our ‘Race Against The Clock' campaign, which was focused on raising £35k to renew our electronic timing system. This was essential to ensure that all our equipment is up to date to continue allowing us to organise and run our own competitions. The club has done a fantastic job in reaching our target allowing us to purchase all of the required equipment. A massive thank vou goes to all that have supported the club with this.

Future Plans

We believe that the club is in a strong position to continue being successful into the immediate and long-term future.

Last year we identified that improving our performance levels across all squads was a key area and we believe that this has occurred. However, there are several different areas that we will continue to work on between coaches, swimmers, committee and parents to continue this progress. Our improved performances at National level will be focused on:

Future Plans (cont.)

  1. Developing the swimmers already within the Pathway, by providing education to swimmers and parents so that they understand the journey and the requirements for success, and by providing them varied opportunities to enhance their development.

2.Developing our pathways at the lower end of the club by supporting our coaches and their development.

Our membership numbers are excellent, and we will look to maintain this, whilst ensuring that we improve the numbers within our Club Pathway squads (Transition and Development).

We will be looking into different training camp opportunities for all squads, which will be tailored to each level. The aim of the overall plan is for it to be progressive meaning that swimmers can be more prepared for the next step in their swimming journey, and for it to be a fun and engaging training opportunity within a different environment leading into performance camps for those requiring it.

The club will be looking to continue developing our coaching team, both on and off-poolside. We will be giving our younger/less experienced coaches new opportunities to be an important part of the running of the club in different streamlinee_, —_—__———Piour support for recentlyall DofE undertakenvolunteer a Poolsidealso Helper Educatorspart of the coaching Course, team whichon willScottish allow usSwimming’s to formaliseJunior and Academy for 2024/2025 which will contribute to her own coaching growth and development.

We will need to revisit and continue developing our partnership with South Ayrshire Council for the benefit of both parties. We are hugely grateful to the council for their continued support despite all of the challenges faced over the last 5 years.

We look forward to returning to Prestwick Leisure Club once its refurbishment is completed.

We also look forward to the completed refurbishment of the Citadel Leisure Centre, which we hope will provide additional land--based opportunities for our swimmers via the enhanced facilities that will be on offer.

Reserves

The charity have a policy of keeping reserves at a level of around two months costs, that will allow the trustees to continue with the charitable objectives for a lengthy period should subscription income drop and the bonus ball cease. This would enable the charity to wind down slowly and complete any commitments it has made.

Trustees

The Trustees who served during the year are as follows:

All of the charity trustees are elected or re-elected by the members at our annual general meeting.

Governing document

South Ayrshire Swim Team is an unincorporated association that achieved charitable status on the 10th March 2020 and is governed by its constitution.

Approved by the Trustees on 18/08/25 and signed on behalf of the trustees as a body.
