## Chairman’s Report

As Chairman it gives me great pleasure to report the continued progress of SAMS in 2024.

Membership continues to increase with daily attendance of between 15 and 20 members per session. The Shed was opened on a Wednesday evening for a trial period, but did not prove very successful. With the high rate of attendance, we now intend to open for an additional day each week.

The poly tunnel has now been erected and fully functional. Flowers and vegetables have been planted for the new season. We are also working with “Scone in Bloom” providing growing space within the poly tunnel for their plug plants. The raised beds have now been planted up with spring bulbs and flowers. The planting of 4 fruit trees enhances the outlook from the Shed.

We have reorganised the machinery area of the Shed to give us more room and allow installation of dust extraction in the future. Additional electric sockets are in the process of being fitted & we are also in the advanced stages of planning and procuring material for building a disabled toilet.

We continue to manufacture garden furniture, bird boxes and planters for sale. We had an extremely successful open day with proceeds of over £1000. We are holding open days again this year in April, June and October.

In our community engagement programme, we have now completed building the bird hide for the new Cross Tay Road Link. with plaques commemorating our part in the building and an additional plaque for our late member “Birdbox Bob Smith” who was very active in the preservation of birds in Scone Woods. Work is now almost complete on the 1934 Identification Beacon, with a granite plinth having been delivered and a suitable location identified.

We have now taken ownership of a shipping container for additional storage within the Shed which is in the process of being sanded down and painted.

We continue to actively engage with local communities.

Financial Review

The accounts for the year to 31 December 2024 show receipts of £6,069 and payments of £9,636, giving rise to a deficit of £3,567. This was expected due to a £5,000 grant from Perth & Kinross Council Community Investment Fund received in 2023 that had not been spent at the end of 2023.

the purchase of some new hand tools, a wood turning lathe, a polytunnel, and associated consumables.

£1,552 was received from the Co-op Community Fund. An application for further funding from the Co-op in 2025 was successful so we look forward to receiving additional funds in 2025.

An open day in September was a resounding success, generating sales of £1,264.

Membership numbers continued to rise with 37 paid subscriptions in the year, compared to 34 for the previous year.

Details of income and expenditure are shown in the Statement of Receipts and Payments on page 7.

In the year ahead we will endeavour to continue to produce saleable items, mainly woodworking, and we are actively considering the best way to achieve sales. We will also continue to seek funding from institutions who support organisations such as ours which benefit the community and look forward to receiving funding from the Co-op in Scone through their Local Community Fund.

## **Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner**

The Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts, in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended).

The Trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c ) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement**

My examination is conducted in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

## **Independent Examiner’s Statement**

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44 (1 ) (a ) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and

to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations have not been met, or

2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
