Structure, Governance and Management
The Anna Burnett Trust is a single tier Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) and became a registered charity on 27 September 2019. It is governed under its Constitution.
Trustee Recruitment and Appointment
Charity Trusteeship is open to any person aged 16 or over and who subscribes to the purposes of the charity and wishes to see them fulfilled.
Any person who wishes to become a charity trustee must sign a written application for charity trusteeship. The application will be considered by the Board at its next Board meeting.
The minimum number of Trustees is three.
At each Annual General Meeting (AGM) each Trustee must retire from office but may then be re-elected under Clause 27 of the Constitution. A Trustee retiring at the AGM will be deemed to have been re-elected unless they advise that they do not wish re-election prior to the conclusion of the AGM.
Objectives and activities
Our Vision
The Anna Burnett Trust recognises the value of the creative arts to young people's education and mental health wellbeing.
We want to make a difference to young people's lives. We want to acknowledge and celebrate our young people's talents and diversity by giving them opportunities in creative art and design.
We aim to reach young people in Scottish secondary schools, particularly those who have fewer opportunities or who have difficulties in school, giving them an expressive outlet through art and design.
Benefits of Creativity in Education
Participating in creative art and design can:
-
Encourage self-expression and imagination
-
Develop individuality
-
Boost problem-solving skills
-
Enhance communication skills.
Benefits of creativity to mental health wellbeing
Participating in creative art and design can improve mental health wellbeing and cn:
-
Inspire self-esteem and confidence
-
Boost mood and positive thinking
-
Help facilitate emotional expression.
The Anna Burnett Trust aims to provide grants through its fundraising activities and donations received to Scottish secondary schools who have applied for funds and which meet the charity’s purpose.
Achievements and Performance
In the twelve months from October 2023 to September 2024, the charity has gratefully continued to receive donations.
In this period the charity paid out its second grant amounting to £1480 to Forrester High School, Edinburgh. This was for the purchase of 40 art material packs to enable certificate students (S3 and upwards) who are living in the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) 1-4/receiving free school meals (FSM) or experiencing hidden poverty to finish work at home which is part of the course requirements. Students produce a folio of their best work over the length of the course and this is submitted to the SQA, or Art dept, for assessment. It consists of a Design Project and an Expressive project. The student’s main emphasis must be on finishing work outside the classroom – at home and on study periods.
We hope that the position in terms of carrying out more fundraising activities and providing more grants to schools will take place in the coming months.
Financial Review
Funds raised for the financial year ending 30 September 2024 is £1291 and expenditure amounted to £1,480. The balance at the end of this period is £10,939.45.
