OSCR Annual Report June 2025

Introduction

Maud Pleasure Park Committee have been busy providing recreational facilities to our village. Ensuring it is maintained and developed to ensure they benefit the local community and visitors to our area. This year is exciting as we mark the centenary of when the park was given to the village and we are keen to encourage many visitors to the celebrations in the autumn.

About the Charity

Name: Maud Pleasure Park Committee Charity Number: SC049641

The charity is run by the following volunteer trustees. Trustees are volunteers from the local community and are appointed at the annual AGM.

Along with other committed members of the community who attend meetings and help with the running, maintenance, and fundraising.

Main Activities

We have continued to meet regularly to manage the park and public toilets and discuss how we can keep the area maintained and well attended.

The park is used regularly by Maud Juniors Football Club, who maintain and develop their football pitch and pavilion. They hold regular training, matches and hospitality events. Maud Kids Football also use the park weekly, from April until October, for their training and run an annual gala, welcoming other primary schoolaged teams for a competition. They also replaced a large section of fence which had been damaged.

We were also able to host a variety of football camps during the year. The school hold their sports day in the park and various local playgroups and nurseries use the area for trips.

The bowling club pavilion has been very busy and had improvements to the interior and exterior to make sure it’s a suitable area for many activities. Rainbows, Brownies and Guides use it for their weekly meeting

place and venue for training and group meetings. They have also been kind enough to do rubbish collections, dog bag receptacles, signs and more and we have been very grateful for their help. They also hosted an event for the Aberdeenshire Wellbeing Week.

We have held holiday clubs in the bowling club pavilion, primarily to use the putting green we developed on half of the bowling green (not being used by the Bowling Club itself) and we offer putting, pool, table tennis, games, colouring, tuck shop and more. Attendance can vary due to the weather, but we’ve only had good feedback from those who have attended. The Bowling Club meet regularly, as do a croquet club who use the croquet green.

We have had some issues with the public toilets, as our regular cleaner and keyholder stopped. We tried to run it between ourselves, but it wasn’t really feasible. We have advertised for a replacement but had no takers. We did not reopen them after the usual winter break and are still considering our options. When we first opened them it was the only public toilets at that end of the village, however, there is now a café opened 6 days a week and the Railway Museum have opened their own ones when it is open, so we’re not sure of the need as much as it was, so this is also being considered.

The renovated playpark is very popular. It seems to entertain a wide range of ages and as mentioned is used as a venue for local playgroups and nurseries on their trips as it is fully enclosed and provides a space for picnics and play and we can offer the toilets at the football club pavilion to be opened for their visits.

We decided to concentrate our fundraising efforts this year for the autumn and our centenary, so our annual activities such as quiz and soup and sweet events which are usually held in March/April, won’t be until September/October this year, so will not be in our finances for this year, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t discussed fundraising at each meeting to try and think of ideas. It is a vital aspect of our committee and one we take very seriously. We have raised some money from our putting days and other activities.

We remain committed to the high-quality maintenance and management of the park and public toilets and ensure they are available to all throughout our community and any visitors.

Finances

As mentioned, our usual fundraisers will fall outside this year’s report, however we do gain income from the Maud Juniors Football and our putting days have some income. With our centenary this year, we hope to boost our finances with specific activities to celebrate it.

Future Plans

Our centenary is on the 5[th] September 2025, and we have planned a few weeks of celebration, starting with a soup and sweet, photograph display (physical and virtual), family activity day and more, concluding with a

quiz night where there will be a hamper draw and raffle alongside the questions. We are very excited to welcome young and old to our events and hope it allows memories to be recalled and created.

Achievements

Maud Pleasure Park Committee have kept up with our communication to the village and local community via Facebook; updating our situation when needed. This has led to several events being booked and taking place in the park. We meet regularly and ask for input from everyone where needed. We continue to work towards a united aim of a recreational facility open to all the local community and visitors to our area.

Conclusion

As always, we are grateful to everyone in our community who donates their time to help the committee deliver our aims, and provide advice, support and information as we do our work to manage a vital community resource.
