Lenzie Tennis Club was formed in 1889 as part of the Lenzie Cricket Club. In 1901, we became an independent Club and have not looked back since.

In 2025 we had a lot to offer our local community. We are an inclusive club open to everyone and welcome everyone who loves tennis. Our coaching programme is particularly strong.

Charity Management

What is Lenzie Tennis Club (SCIO) ?

We are a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation with four Charity Trustees. Our charity number is SC049633.

Mike Bradley was elected as a new Trustee when taking on the role of President in November 2022. and continued in this position for 2026. At the AGM in November 2025, Rebecca Lister also joined the general committee . The following Trustees were re-elected to serve for 2026 :

President’s Report to the 2025 Annual General Meeting

2025 has been another excellent and enjoyable year for Lenzie Tennis Club, we currently have 141 members which is slightly down on last year but similar to still healthy numbers. Overall, the club is in a healthy position. We have a good balance at the club, with both a large number of junior members and adults. The club coach James Thow and assistants have done well to continue growth within the Junior sections.

I would like to thank all the Committee members and Trustees for all your hard work and dedication in the running of Lenzie Tennis Club. Special thanks to Julie English for her regular updates to members, Mark Taylor for his work as Treasurer plus Fraser Joss as our Club Secretary. Thanks to Julie English for organising the Christmas Night again

The 2025 season was a reasonably successful one for our teams: The Gents 1[st] team were second in Division 3 and have won promotion to Division 2, unfortunately Gents 2[nd] team were 7[th] in Division 6 but Gents 3[rd] team stayed in Division 8. The Ladies 1[st] team were a very respectable 4[th] in Division 2 and stay in that league. Ladies 2[nd] team narrowly missed out on promotion being 3[rd] in Division 7 unlucky ladies.

The Autumn leagues were successful for the Ladies with over 40s 1[st] team being 2[nd] in Division 3 while 2[nd] team were first in Division 9 and achieved promotion. The Gents over 40s struggled in Division 5 and were relegated (too many of our players were over 60s players ).

The remaining teams were all competitive and everyone appeared to enjoy the various matches and hopefully this will continue next season.

The junior teams also had success this summer

8U – Red – 4[th ] /5 9U Summer – Orange 3[rd] /6 – Gold division – highest league 9U Winter – Orange 2[nd] /5 10U – Green 3[rd] /6 11U – 1[st] /6 12U – 1[st] /6 14U – 3[rd] /6 16U – 2[nd] /6 18U – 6[th] /6

Thanks to James Thow our Head coach for running the coaching programme for both junior and adult members. James and Ryan plus assistant coaches have continued to play a big part in encouraging new juniors and adults to take out membership of the club.

A big well done also to Mark Taylor for running a successful and smoothly run Club Championships and well done to all who took part and especially to the finalists and winners.

The social side of the club has grown with several afternoons of tennis including teas and BBQs.

The internal clubhouse work was continued with the upgrade the ladies’ toilets during the year. The next project may be work on the roof which unfortunately leaks on occasions.

We had a successful fund-raising quiz evening in March 2025 and raised around £960.

A Breast Cancer Charity event was run by Fraser Joss on 27[th] September in memory of his mother and was a successful day .

Objectives and Activities

Within our governing document (our constitution), Lenzie Tennis Club’s purposes are unchanged. These are :>

To allow us to carry out our purposes, we register with the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) and maintain their minimum standards :

We treat Safeguarding with the utmost importance, and this is highlighted on our website. All our Policies and Procedures are advertised to our Members and are available to download from our website. www.lenzietennis.org.uk

Objectives for the Future

We are always looking to improve our facilities and our ability to promote tennis in Lenzie and the wider community, and so we have not rested on our laurels and our wonderful achievements this year. Our Business Plan has been updated to reflect our current position - our playing facilities have been modernised, but we aim to go further. We are also looking to continue refurbishing our clubhouse and surrounds. We have made inroads this past year in modernising the kitchen escape area externally with new and expanded paving. Our new disabled toilet is up and running and the gents changing room has been consequently reduced to a more manageable size with external wall insulation. Upgrading of the ladies toilet and changing area has now been completed. Works to the roof is next likely requirement.

Achievements and Performance

Our Club Championships were held again this past year and participation was up. Well done to all who took part and to Mark Taylor for organising.

A charity event was held for Breast Cancer and was well attended

A very successful Junior Club Championships again this year organised by our, James Thow.

Lenzie Tennis Club’s 2025 season did see a loss in year, due to the one off nature of the task of upgrading the ladies toilets. Removing this, the club would have made a small profit in the year

Membership

As we continue to come out of the negative effects of Covid shut down and restrictions, and as the sporting world opens up elsewhere, we find that our extremely high membership figures from the past two years has fallen. Notwithstanding this, the figure of 162 Members are similar to pre-Covid times and puts the Club in a good position moving forward.

The following Coaching Report was provided by James Thow, our Head Coach, at the 2025 AGM :>

Coaching

Hi all, it has been quite a successful year of coaching at the club, with a few milestones achieved and plenty of progress made.

The junior programme has been consistently busy, with good attendance over the four days of coaching run each week. I am pleased to report that each block had over 100 weekly attendances, with a minimum of 102 and a maximum of 111 throughout the year. While numbers have been good, I have been disappointed by a higher-than-expected turnover of experienced players giving up tennis, or not returning to coaching. Main known reasons have been leaving for other sports. This has been frustrating to see and a shame for the programme and teams. Despite this, I am pleased to say we now have one of our players training with the U9 West of Scotland County team. This is a real milestone in his tennis career. He also achieved player of the block during his first block – a huge well done to Charlie Banham.

This year, to increase playing opportunities I have run team-based matchplay days for each of the blocks run. Each day is themed around a seasonal event (Easter, French Open, Club Championships, Halloween) I invite all players in each ball colour down to play matches and socialise. These are now included as part of the block to encourage players to play matches. I have also arranged pre-season friendly matches for our U12 and U16 players at Falkirk TC.

Mike has covered the junior team results; however I would like to thank all parents who assist with captaining and running teams for the leagues, and a huge thanks and well done to all players who represented the club this year in external leagues. A special shoutout to players who have been out competing in individual tournaments - well done to Charlie Banham, Timothy Li, Archie Scott, Brody Gowen, Sean Hannah, Emily Hannah, Max Ardiles, Alex Banham and Robbie Scott. A final congratulations to William Johnson, who made his first appearance on the senior teams this season.

I would like to thank Ryan and Danielle for their contributions to the coaching programme. Throughout the year, Ryan has been working with many players regularly on a 1-1 basis, and Danielle has been working with local schools to promote tennis and the club. Both have run and assisted classes on a weekly basis too. I have also had several members of the coaching programme volunteering during the coaching sessions, which has been much appreciated. Thanks to Kyle Henderson, Sandy Henderson and Cameron Reid for their assistance too. Finally, a huge thanks to all of my sponsors for supporting me and the programme.

Competitions and Team Tennis

Club Development

The following Club Development Report was made at this year’s AGM :

The fourth court has been an excellent addition to the club, allowing for enhanced court usage during the summer months. Floodlights are to be explored however the neighbouring houses present challenges.

Clubhouse renovations including the accessible toilet and new ladies toilets have been a great addition.

There have been minor improvements to the roof to prevent tennis balls being stuck in the drains but more work is likely to be required.

The club have also added a new fire alarm system that will improve clubhouse safety, while keeping the building insurance valid.
