Achievements and Performance
Global Family Care Network (SCIO) operates St. James Research Centre (SJRC), which provides best practice training and resources to practitioners in anti-modern slavery intervention implementation, community strengthening, and non-profit management and governance.
The research centre hosted its largest group of international students to date for the project-based internship program. Throughout the internship, participants engaged in mentorship, personal development, community involvement, cultural activities, and on-site courses. During the year, two accomplished internship groups completed the program, contributing to its continued growth and impact.
The research centre offered courses in both online and in-person formats, providing flexible learning options.
One of the key achievements of the year was the installation of an energy-efficient infrared heating system, enabling year-round use of the building. This vital upgrade allows for the expansion of community services that were previously limited due to lack of heating. As a result, we have also been able to rent out our community room to local groups and organisations.
Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees
Trustees are recruited by recommendation. A new board member joined the board in November 2024 with one further to join in 2025.

Financial Review
During the year the charity has had income of £136,322 (2024: £92,284) of this £82,913 (2024: £29,284) has been for restricted funds.
There has been expenditure of £152,237 (2024: £84,928) leading to an overall deficit of £15,915 (2024: surplus £7,356).
Reserves Policy
The charity has reserves of £3,039 at 31 January 2025 (2024: £18,594). However, of these reserves £10,323 is held in restricted funds, creating negative reserves of £7,284 in general funds (2023: £4,079).
The charity’s main donor is Global Family Care Network in the US, due to their economy in the last 12 months this continues to create a shortfall in donations received from them.
Global Family Care Network (SCIO) has the necessary support and resources from Global Family Care Network (US) in place to continue operating over the next 12 months.
We plan to increase funding by expanding the rental of our community space throughout the year, made possible by the newly installed heating system. In addition, we will continue to provide facilities for visiting lecturers from the US and increase the number of available slots to accommodate more students, thereby generating additional funds.
We aim to have a one months reserves policy, this would correspond with the requirement of a one month notice period for employees and we aim to build reserves in the coming year to meet this policy.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of
Global Family Care Network (SCIO)
I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 January 2025 set out on pages four to seven.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity's trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(a) to (c) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under Section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of the independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements

to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations; and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with Regulation 8 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations
have not been met; or
- (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Assets
Accounts are prepared on a receipts and payments basis, because of this all fixed assets purchased have been shown directly within the receipts and payments account at cost in the year in which they were purchased.
In the year ended 31 January 2025 Global Family Care Network (SCIO) has invested £80,580 in an infrared heating system for the St. James Church building.
Global Family Care Network (SCIO) own the building at St. James Church. The estimated value of the building is currently £125,000 with contents of around £25,000.
Liabilities
At the year-end an accounting fee is due of £786.

Notes to the Accounts
1. Basis of Accounting
These accounts have been prepared on the Receipts and Payments basis in accordance with the Charities & Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended).
2. Nature and purpose of funds
Unrestricted funds are those that may be used at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the objects of the charity. The trustees maintain a single unrestricted fund for the day-to-day running of the charity.
Restricted Funds may only be used for specific purposes. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for specific purposes.
3. Related Party Transactions
During the year Global Family Care Network (SCIO) received grants of £40,191 from their associated not for profit organisation Global Family Care Network (2024: £47,950).
4. Trustee Remuneration and Expenses
The members of the Board of Trustees did not receive any remuneration or expenses in the year (2024: nil).

Falkirk Council – Funding received of £3,373 during the year to cover the salary of an admin assistant position.
Heating Fund – Infrared - Funding received in the year from the Community Ownership Fund of £77,520 with a further 20% match funded by Foundation Scotland (£14,500 received in the prior year) and Global Family Care Network (£2,020) to have infrared heating installed in St. James Place. One final invoice is due for payment in February 2025.
Heating Fund – Solar – Funding received from The Safford Trust (£8,533) in the year ended 31 January 2024 to have solar panels fitted. This work has been completed post year end in March 2025.
