Trustees' Report

Structure, Governance and Management

Constitution

The charity is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (a SCIO). It was registered in its current legal form on 9 July 2019. The charity was previously an unincorporated association but changed its legal form to a SCIO. It has a double-tier structure with members and appointed trustees.

Appointment of trustees

The individuals who signed the charity trustee declaration forms which accompanied the application for incorporation of the organisation were deemed to have been appointed by the members as charity trustees with effect from the date of incorporation of the organisation.

Trustees are elected at the annual general meeting; existing trustees retire from office and are then eligible for re-election at the annual general meeting. There must be a minimum of three and a maximum of ten trustees.

Objectives and Activities

Charitable Purposes

The organisation’s purposes are:-

  1. To provide for the relief of those in need by reason of age or disability by using music to bring people together, reducing the effects of isolation and building and renewing community.

  2. To promote the advancement of the arts by increasing public exposure, appreciation and involvement in music, and reaching out to new audiences.

Activities

The main activity of the charity is playing musical concerts in the homes of people who are lonely and isolated, by virtue of age and/or disability ('house concerts'). In addition, public concerts are performed for a wider audience, which has the combined effect of building community as well as raising funds for future house concerts.

Achievements and Performance

Following the lifting of Covid 19 restrictions Music For You were thrilled to resume giving house concerts; the first taking place on 29th October 21. Since then Music For You have given a further seven concerts in various homes and venues in Edinburgh.

Financial Review

Current funds would support a small number of future house concerts. We are reviewing marketing and publicity material to raise awareness of the benefits of using music to bring people together, reduce isolation, and also to promote appreciation of music.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees and Members of Music for You

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31st July 2022 which are set out on pages 6 to 8.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner's statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

  2. (a) to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44 (1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

  3. (b) to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

have not been met, or

  1. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
