Tiustee recruitment and appointment
New trustees are identified through local community networks.
partner organisations, and word of mouth. with the aim of
maintaining a balance of skills and experience in education,
ecology, and community engagement. In accordance with the
SCIO constitution, trustees are appointed by resolution of the
existing board and confirmed at the next AGM. All new trustees
receive an induction that includes OSCR guidance on trustees,
duties, the SCIO constitution, and an overview of current projects
such as Bat's Wood and Willow Worlds. The charity welcomes
expressions of interest from individuals committed to
environmental education and sustainable land use. ensuring
diversity and continuity within the board.
Objectives and activities
Charitable purposes
The provision of, or organisation of, recreational facilities with the
object of improving conditions of live for the persons for whom the
facilities or activities are primarily intended by providing a
mountain bike track open to all and free to use.
The protection and improvement of the local environment by
developing and maintaining the wood and growing space,
developing an orchard and providing environmental education
including in the practice of permaculture.
To advance the education of young people by providing
construction work skills and work placements.
Establish or to secure the establishment of an outdoor cycling
track and to maintain and manage. or to Co-operate with any local
statutory authority or authorities in the maintenance and
management of such a track for activities promoted by the
trustees and its constituent bodies in the furtherance of the above
objects or any of them.

in relation to these objects
Promote safe cycling as sustainable transport in the local area.
Acquire the land known locally as Bat's Wood from Fife Council
and retum or donate the land (upon dissoluts"on).

APPENDIX 1
Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements
of the charity during the financial
period
"Levenmouth: A Climate Beacon?" film project featuring pupils
and volunteers premiered at the Fife Film Festival in May 2024.
Our main focus this year was on Willow Worlds using a grant from
the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a Volunteering Matters grant.
The project is exhaustively documented on our 'Willow Worlds.
Substack and we have attempted to incorporate our filmmaking
experience into the reporting part of this community led research
project.
The installation of the Willow Worlds. the development of the use
of video following on from the Climate Beacon Film Project and
the continual development of Bat's Wood's biodiversity through
adding of nutrients demonstrate good progress throughout the
year.
Bat's Wood was shortlisted for Scotland's Finest Woods Award in
2025.
Financial review
Brief statement of the charity's policy
on reserves
Bat's Wood SCIO aims to maintsin modest unrestricted reserves
sufficient to cover approximately three months of essential running
costs and any unforeseen expenditure relating to project
maintenance or equipment. As a small volunteer-led charity. most
income is spent directly on charitable activities such as
environmental education. willow planting. and community
engagement. The trustees review the level of reserves annually to
ensure that funds remain appropriate for the scale and
sustainability of cuThent projects. Where reseNes exceed
