**What the charity does:** Friends of Nairn Academy Duke of Edinburgh exists to support young people of Nairnshire complete the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. The charity manages any funds to ensure young people have the required equipment to complete their expeditions, and we pay for training for volunteer leaders and expedition assessors. All longer expeditions require leaders with a Summer Mountain Leader Award which requires a training course and a six-day assessment as well as specialist First Aid qualifications. The charity also arranges and resources expedition training sessions for young people, for example, teaching first aid, navigation, campcraft and expedition planning. We also support groups with recording other parts of the Award, such as Service, Sport and Skills.

**Objectives:** The aims and purpose of Friends of Nairn Duke of Edinburgh Group will be: - To bring together young people from Nairn and the surrounding area and foster participation in the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award Scheme. - To promote knowledge and understanding of the DofE scheme in the local community, thus advancing education about the benefits of the scheme both in participants and wider area. - To establish an ethos of support for the Scheme within local clubs, charities and businesses, while also helping them develop through increased participation by local young people. - To promote the advancement of education by developing knowledge in the areas of a healthy lifestyle, the great outdoors and how to look after it, and educating participants in the benefits of community involvement both for themselves and for their community.  This will be done through involvement in the activities participants must undertake as part of the scheme, and the training they are given during that involvement. - To help develop a sense of citizenship by establishing links between young people and their community through volunteering and involvement in local clubs. - To create and maintain a structure that ensures the sustainability of the Scheme in Nairn and the surrounding area and its continued development.
