Objectives and Activities

Cricket Forth Valley was set up as a charity with the main objective of:

“The advancement of public participation in sport through the provision of opportunities for people living in the Forth Valley area to get involved in playing cricket”

Cricket Forth Valley is committed to delivering first Experience across the whole of Forth Valley, giving everyone the opportunity to give cricket a go.

Cricket Forth Valley in partnership with various Sporting Bodies/ Local Authorities/Cricket Scotland and Cricket Clubs, helps the Charity to deliver on our mission, to grow cricket participation across all ages and abilities within our communities, benefiting the individuals taking part and our Cricket Clubs with a wider audience of potential customers/ members/players/volunteers etc.

Activities

Cricket Forth Valley main activities to achieve its purposes are as follows: -

Cricket Forth Valley have been building and growing relationships with existing and new partners over recent years. However, this year as been a quieter year than in previous years since we have been looking

to recruit a new part-time support officer (based on funding available) since our full-time employee left our employment at the end of 2023.

The Charity along with its existing funds and with funding awarded from the Bank of Scotland Foundation & Lord Taverners has been able to maintain delivery, of our various Community & Grassroot Cricket Programmes and where possible offering new opportunities to a wider audience.

School Engagement

Cricket Forth Valley in partnership with Cricket Scotland, Active Stirling, and Falkirk Leisure & Culture (Feel Falkirk) has established and delivered School Cricket engagement programs and activities in Schools across Stirling and Falkirk. Before the beginning of each School year, where possible we plan our work and school delivery schedule with each of our partners.

During 2024, CFV supported High School after School Cricket Teams at Braes High School, Graeme High School, Larbert High School in Falkirk and McLaren High School in Callander. This resulted in the creation of different High School cricket teams of mixed abilities who once again represented the Forth Valley region at Cricket Scotland’s National Secondary Schools Cricket Competition (S1-3) held at Perth in June 2024. Larbert High School reached the Final, to finish runners up to Robert Gordon’s College Aberdeen, a fantastic achievement.

We were able to visit and engage with up to 12 Primary Schools across the Forth Valley region with School Cricket Taster sessions lasting for up to 4 weeks at a time, involving over 400 P1-7 pupils.

CFV supported Primary School Cricket Festivals P1-3, and Regional School Tournaments involved over 300 pupils.

The Charity run School Cricket taster sessions in Primary Schools across the Forth valley area. The Charity where possible donate Cricket sets to Primary Schools especially in Social & Economic deprived SIMD areas. CFV also run taster sessions at Primary Schools during specific active School Weeks/Month across the area to highlight cricket to pupils.

These Cricket taster sessions the Charity deliver at no cost to Schools are fundamental to the Charity in meeting our aims of trying to advance the public participation in sport and to give pupils a provision of opportunities to get involved in playing a sport like Cricket which they may have never had before.

When delivering Cricket within Schools during the year, as in previous years the teachers enjoyed the games and sessions we put on and felt they could do them during PE lessons but wanted more instruction. We offered and delivered CPD Sessions to Schools where requested, for their teachers/sports leaders teaching them the basics of cricket and games/drills they can use within a session.

Cricket Club Engagement

During 2024, Cricket Forth Valley has organised and supported Junior Cricket and invited Cricket Clubs to Kwik Cricket/Soft Ball Festivals and Indoor/Outdoor tournaments and Leagues for J1 Cricket etc.

CFV also continued countdown Cricket Festivals (CFV Sixty) during the Summer involving up to 6 Cricket Clubs across 4 venues. CFV supported J1 Cricket Festivals/Matches between the Local Cricket Clubs across the Forth Valley Area, CFV have also supported and given advice on the Forth Valley under 14 T20 Hardball League set up with inter club fixtures over the Summer

The Indoor Winter Cricket Season was more restrictive than in previous years due to lack of a resources and time for coaches to organise festivals and matches, that said clubs across forth valley area rallied around themselves where possible to provide inter -club matches and festivals at various venues over the winter to enable some indoor cricket sessions.

Community Engagement

During 2024 Cricket Forth Valley once again supported Active Summer & Autumn Community Sports Camps with Active Stirling, and Falkirk Community Trust to showcase Cricket activities during the School Summer Holidays and Easter & October Breaks. The Charity provided Cricket activities at various venues for up to 300 participants.

Cricket Forth Valley once again supported and celebrated International Women’s Day by providing a Cricket Workshop for the Falkirk Girls Sport Forum at Grangemouth Sports Centre to highlight cricket for up to 60 high school S3 girls.

Female Engagement

During 2024 Cricket Forth Valley was once again hoping to develop a Female Regional Cricket Hub for Women and Girls with support from Cricket Scotland. This Hub will support Cricket Club Female Sections and provide a pathway for Female Cricket, but this is still ongoing in 22024. Cricket Forth Valley were able to support more Women and Girls cricket inter-club matches and Cricket Festivals during the Year than in the previous year.

Westquarter & Redding Cricket successfully continued to run girls only Dynamos Cricket with up to 20 girls present throughout the Summer.

The Charity had planned to develop School Female Festivals/Local Leagues/Regional Soft Ball Festivals and enter more local cricket clubs into the Female Cricket Scotland Competitions like the “Wee Bash”. This is still in the development stages in 2024. CFV understand we need to grow female cricket again across our clubs to make it healthier in the number of participants across all age groups.

Westquarter & Redding CC/CFV continued to grow the CricHIIT workout for Cricket Fitness which is very popular with participants.

Disabili ement Cricket Forth Valley as a Charity continued to advance our involvement and participation in Disability Cricket with various positive cricket programs including delivering inclusive cricket sessions through the Lord Taverners Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND)Cricket Schools Programme. Cricket Forth Valley continued to deliver the Lord Tavemers SEND programme with Table Cricket at Falkirk High School to 10-12 ASN (Additional Support Needs) Pupils at the School for 30 weeks during the school year in partnership with Cricket Scotland. This year, Lord Taverners made the offer (after the unfortunate situation with not being able to attend in 2023 due to a long flight delay) to invite Falkirk High School to come down to Lords Cricket Ground in London for the National Table Cricket Tournament in June 2024 at their expense. Due to other circUmstan￿S the school could not make it, However a former pupil from the school table cricket team who enjoyed Table Cricket so much that she became a qualified multi- 14

sport Coach for Scottish Disability Sport and delivered Table Cricket herself did go down to London to be interviewed about her amazing journey from being introduced to Table Cricket in 2022 and by 2024 actually delivering Table Cricket as a Coach! Thanks to CFV with support from Cricket Scotland.

CFV provided cricket taster sessions to young participants at events such as Forth Valley Parasport Festival (Forth Valley Disability Sport)’ Carrongrange HS (Falkirk)ASN Easter & Summer Holidays program, Sportability Program-Active Stirling, and ASN/Enhanced Provision Schools with Softball and Table Cricket Sessions.

Continued a Super 1’s session at Donaldson School in Linlithgow involving up to 12 pupils with a number of these participants managing along to the Disability Champion Club Westquarter & Redding CC for further Super 1’s sessions outside during the Summer showing further progression.

Cricket Forth Valley continued the Central Super 1’s Cricket Hub Sessions at Grangemouth High School 2) Indoors with 10 Participants regularly attending the sessions during the year. The Hub also continued to run outdoor during the Summer being located at Disability Champion Club-Westquarter & Redding Cricket Club.

In total 200 participants were involved in our Table Cricket, Enhanced Provision All Stars and Super 1’s sessions including Cricket taster sessions and Easter Disability Sports Camp at Carrongrange High School for Pupils with Moderate, Severe, and Complex Additional Support Needs. During the year the Charity received great feedback from the participants involved as well as carers, teachers etc in that the Disability Cricket Programs we provide have supported and improved the physical and mental health and wellbeing of individuals.

Cricket Forth Valley also continued to support Multi-Sport Disability Sessions at the Peak Stirling with Active Stirling delivering Table Cricket Taster Sessions and Super 1’s amongst other sports to up to 20 participants per week.

At Cricket Scotland Inaugural Disability Schools Cup held at Perth June 2024, Forth Valley Region was represented by Falkirk HS &

Carrongrange HS pupils, who are now famous appearing on a Cricket Scotland promotion video along with a Scotland Men’s International Cricketer inspiring the next cricket generation on Youtube.

Cricket Forth Valley Board consists of trustees who are members from Local Cricket Clubs as well as individuals with financial and management experience.

Achievements

I n 2024 Cricket Forth Valley was able to advance our Cricket programmes in Disability cricket to a wider audience against a backdrop of reduced funding being available and the loss to the charity with departure of our experienced Full-time Planning Officer.

Financial review

Cricket Forth Valley Policy on holding reserves is that 70% of our reserves held are restricted to ensure our outcomes are met and service delivery meets our aims including covering wages and coaching costs for our own funded Planning Officer to provide service delivery of our various activities and programs. The remaining 30% is unrestricted Funds.

Cricket Forth Valley recorded a small profit for the last financial year, the Charity’s overall financial situation remains healthy and stable.

However, the departure of our Planning Officer at the end of 2023, as meant a great loss to the charity since part of their job remit was to seek funding for the charity to deliver our various cricket programmes as well as planning, developing and expanding the programmes.

Looking ahead with our existing financial funds we have available and hopefully obtaining new funding income streams during 2025 as a charity we can look initially to recruiting a part-time Planning officer to the role. This maintains our delivery of our established cricket programmes in the first instance and hopefully leads to further new opportunities moving forward.
