## Annual Report of Comunn Eachdraidh Scalpaigh (SC048899) for the year ending 31/3/25 Comunn Eachdraidh Scalpaigh has had another busy year and held the following events: ## **Taigh Ceilidh on Fishing** A second Taigh Ceilidh was held on 7 May 2024 and attended by 45 people. We heard some very interesting stories which were recorded and added to our archives. ## **Lighthouse 200th Anniversary - Film and Entertainment – Thursday 25 July** To mark the 200th anniversary of the switching on of the Eilean Glas Lighthouse we held a film evening. The Northern Lighthouse Heritage Trust showed two short films about the lighthouse service. We were also entertained by our young Highland dancers and enjoyed a sumptious supper. Over 100 people attended the event. ## **Summer Exhibition – Our Fishing Heritage – 23 July to 30 August** Our summer exhibition was a great success thanks to the volunteer team and members who came along to help and ceilidh. Radio nan Gàidheal conducted interviews with some of our senior fishermen – there were some good stories and lots of laughs. Visitors to the exhibition came from all over the world and we enjoyed telling them more about Scalpay and learning more about them. The bad weather proved a bonus as many people, both young and old, came in to shelter from the rain and wind and warm up over a cup of tea and some of Mairead Ness’s delicious home baking. The bad weather also helped the knitwear sales – in addition to the lovely new knitwear donated by , we have sold our entire knitwear stock, apart from one forlorn hat that has been donated to charity. Our bank balance is looking very healthy thanks to the generosity of visitors and members. We made £1750 from knitwear sales, refreshments and donations; and have sold over 140 calendars. ## **2025 Calendar** Our major fund-raising activity for the year was the 2025 calendar. The calendar featured 13 (January 2026 is included) fishing boats from the ring-netting days. The beautiful boats ensured popularity of the calendar which went on sale at the Summer Exhibition. ## **Visit to Harris House** Some of our members paid a visit to our local care home, Harris House, and showed the residents a selectiion of photographs from the archives. It brought back many happy memories for the Scalpay residents and we enjoyed a cup of tea with them. Fundlng Success CES has beell awarded £1250 by the Ciowll Estates to put towaTds out Touchscreen Project.
