## **Callander’s Landscape SCIO** **Trustees’ Annual Report** Period: 29/11/2020 - 28/11/2021 ## **www.callanderslandscape.org/SCIO** Callander’s Landscape SCIO Scottish Charity Number: SC048880 Registered address: Carrochan, Carrochan Road, Balloch, G83 8EG Tel: 01389 727 799 Email: CLPadmin@lochlomond-trossachs.org www.callanderslandscape.org/SCIO **2** ## **Charity Trustees** (Callander Community Development Trust) (Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park) (Stirling Council) **3** ## **Objectives and activities** Callander’s Landscape SCIO was established in November 2018 with the following stated purposes: 1) To advance the community development, the physical improvement of and regeneration of Callander and the areas surrounding Callander for the benefit of the public; 2) To protect, conserve, improve and promote the sustainable use of the natural environment and wildlife habitats in and around Callander with a view to where possible, encouraging and facilitating greater public access whilst respecting the natural balance and beauty of these areas; and 3) The promotion of the heritage, archaeological remains, history and culture of Callander and the surrounding areas for the benefit of the public. The three organisational Trustees are Callander Community Development Trust, Stirling Council and Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Elected office bearers are representatives from these organisations. NatureScot, previously the fourth organisational Trustee, resigned its position during the year. During this second year of its existence, the SCIO has focused on supporting projects within the Callander Landscape Partnership (CLP). Having secured external funding for the CLP’s Dark Skies project, the SCIO is refocusing on work which the Covid-19 pandemic has delayed over the past year; contributing to discussions future maintenance and management responsibilities a newly-built public footpath in Callander Crags, and proposed developments around the Callander area including new directional path signage, interpretation and a footbridge, viewing platform and associated infrastructure at the Falls of Leny. This work will continue throughout the financial year 2021/22 as the works detailed above progress and are completed. **4** ## **Structure, governance and management** Governing document Callander’s Landscape SCIO is governed by its Constitution. Trustee recruitment and appointment Three of the four Trustees appointed at incorporation remain in post. Each represents a key partner on the Callander’s Landscape Partnership, and as such all were aware of the SCIO’s creation and purposes ahead of their appointments. The Board comprises representatives from **Callander Community Development Trust** and two public bodies: ## - **Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park** - **Stirling Council** With representatives both from the local community and public bodies, the composition of the Board allows the SCIO to benefit from a range of experience, expertise and resources. NatureScot (previously Scottish Natural Heritage) resigned its position on the SCIO during the 2019/20 year following. **5** ## **Achievements and performance** This reporting period, while largely disrupted due to Covid-19, has seen Callander’s Landscape SCIO secure grant funding of £1,000 from Stirling Council’s Community Pride Fund, which will facilitate further public Dark Skies events events for community members of all ages (and people further afield, given events were restricted to online only). In 2022, Dark Sky Discovery Sites will be certified in and around Callander, helping the area become a ‘go to’ destination for skygazing in central Scotland. Volunteers have carried out a vast majority of the research required to pinpoint and develop these locations, and the remainder of this calendar year promises to be exciting. **6** ## **Financial review** There has been limited financial activity to date. Details of any deficit The SCIO does not have a deficit at the present time and this isn’t anticipated to change at any point in the foreseeable future. Donated facilities and services Support for administration, financial management and governance is provided by the Callander Landscape Partnership’s lead partner, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. **7** ## **Future plans** - Continued engagement with Callander Landscape Partnership on its ongoing programme (runs until October 2022). - Completion and agreement of management and maintenance plans with other CLP partners for Falls of Leny visitor destination, Callander Crags footpath and other assets. - Exploration of further external match funding opportunities for the Callander Landscape Partnership.
