Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 March 2025
The Trustees are pleased to present their report together with the financial statements of the charity for the Year Ended 31 March 2025.
Legal Structure
South Community Recovery Network was registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator on 29 October 2018 as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation. The charity registration number is SC048793.

The Trustees who served during the year and to the date of this report were as follows:
Appointment of Trustees
New Trustees are appointed as and when required by the charity’s needs. Appointment is through a process of strict criteria that has been agreed upon by the current Trustees. No set time limit is agreed for Trustees though the Trustees review their involvement annually.
Charitable Objectives
The charity was established to complete the following objectives:

The advancement of health through the facilitation of peer led, person centred recovery initiatives, which include drop in and support groups throughout South Glasgow.

The advancement of citizenship or community development.

The relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.

Principal Activities
The South Community Recovery Network (SCRN) is a partnership of peer-led, person-centred recovery initiatives, drop-ins, and support groups operating throughout the South Sector of Glasgow. Our network is built by and for people with lived experience of alcohol and drug misuse, who have overcome significant barriers in their own lives and now dedicate themselves to helping others achieve stability and recovery.
SCRN’s initiatives are rooted in the belief that recovery is most effective when it is communitydriven, inclusive, and barrier-free. Volunteers with lived experience play a central role in designing and delivering services that reflect the real needs and aspirations of people in recovery. This approach ensures that support is not only accessible but also empowering and sustainable.
Achievements and Performance
SCRN delivers a wide range of peer-led services and activities, all facilitated by volunteers in recovery from problematic substance use. Our work is structured around two core elements:

Practical and Emotional Support : We offer daily recovery-focused activities and mutual support groups that provide safe spaces for individuals to connect, share, and grow. These supports are available seven days a week, with informal peer support continuing beyond core hours—highlighting the strength and commitment of our recovery community.

Pathways to Progression : We provide structured opportunities for individuals in recovery to move into education, training, and employment. This development pathway is supported by strong partnerships and collaborations across Glasgow, ensuring that recovery is not just about abstinence but about building a meaningful and fulfilling life.
Achievements and Performance
The South Recovery Community Network (SCRN) offers a range of services and activities that are delivered by volunteers in recovery from problematic substance use . There are two distinct elements of SCRN. Firstly, the practical peer-led activities and emotional supports we provide for people in recovery from problematic substance use and secondly, the pathway of development in place for people in recovery to progress into employment, education, and training. These two elements are enveloped by the networks and partnerships we have and the collaborations and initiatives we have created and plan to develop over the next three years.
Our activities are created, developed, and delivered by people in recovery and currently, the network provides support to people in recovery 7 days a week, 24 hrs a day. Whilst that is not specifically core hours our volunteers wanted to highlight that continued recovery support takes place across the network after core hours and mutual support is provided across SCRN participants and volunteers.

SCRN continues to raise awareness and ensure accessibility through digital platforms (website, Facebook, Twitter) and city-wide communications. Our inclusive, blended approach to service delivery ensures that anyone seeking recovery support can easily find and engage with the network.
SCRN will continue to develop and maintain an inclusive and accessible programme across the South of Glasgow, with a blended approach to activities that meet the diverse needs of people in recovery. Our barrier-free model ensures that anyone seeking support can engage with the network without stigma or unnecessary gatekeeping. Activities are designed, developed, and delivered by people in recovery, ensuring authenticity, relevance, and mutual understanding.
We recognise that recovery doesn’t happen only during core hours. That’s why our network provides support seven days a week, with ongoing peer-to-peer engagement and emotional support available around the clock. This continuous presence strengthens recovery communities and fosters a culture of connection and resilience. SCRN’s digital platforms—our website, Facebook, and Twitter—offer straightforward ways for individuals to learn about our services and get involved. In addition, our city-wide communications and strong partnerships with statutory and voluntary organisations help us reach people wherever they are in their recovery journey. These relationships are crucial in raising awareness, reducing barriers, and ensuring that recovery support is visible, accessible, and responsive throughout Glasgow.

Supporting people, staff have referred people back to treatment and care, supported people detoxing from illicit drugs and alcohol and from medication-assisted treatment (MAT). They have supported people who are homeless, helping to secure suitable accommodation to keep them off the streets and away from harmful drug and alcohol use. Most people referred to the service are isolated and have poor physical and mental health issues. Staff have referred people to other services to receive the support they need for a positive future.
Financial Review
The Trustees are pleased to record that income for the year amounted to £171,844 (2024: £203,594). The charity’s principal funding sources are NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Corra Foundation. There is a net excess of receipts over payments in the year of £2,450 (2024: £27,584).
Statement on Risk
The Trustees have considered the significant strategic, business and operational risks to which the charity is exposed and have reviewed those risks and established systems to mitigate them.
Reserves Policy
The level of reserves held is shown in the Statement of Balances on page 8. The Trustees are satisfied with the level of reserves held, particularly taking into account the need to ensure sufficient funds are available to allow flexibility in responding to needs.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 March 2025
I report on the financial statements of the charity for the Year Ended 31 March 2025 which are set out on pages 7 to 9.
Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Independent Examiner
The Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The Trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Trust and a comparison of the financial statements presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the financial statements and seeks explanations from the Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the financial statements.
Independent Examiner’s Statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and

to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations have not been met, or
-
to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the financial statements to be reached.

- 1 Nature and purpose of funds
Restricted fund income in the current and previous year comprises:
- £68,250 (2024: £66,675) received from Corra Foundation towards outreach salaries and related costs. - £nil (2024: £3,640) received from GCVS for mental health wellbeing events (2024: gambling awareness sessions).
All restricted funds have been fully spent by 31 March 2025, with the exception of £12 (2024: £12) carried forward in the Impact Arts Fund, £103 (2024: £103) carried forward in the STV Appeal Fund, £9,950 (2024: £9,950) carried forward in the Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, £1,614 (2024: £1,614) carried forward in the GCVS fund and £52,343 (2024: £45,093) carried forward towards outreach salaries and related costs.
All other funds are unrestricted subject to their application in achieving the objects of the charity.

The Trustees received no remuneration or expenses from the charity during the current or previous year.
