Governlng document Rwanda Scotland Alliance is a Scottish Charitsble Incorporated Organisation {SCIO) with the purposes and administration arrangements being set out in our constitution. All incoming Trustees are given a copy of the Constitution and some induction has tsken place through this process. Charltablo purposes Our purposes, as recorded in our constitution, are as follows: 1. The prevention or relief of poverty. 2. The advancement of education. 3. The advancement of citizenship and community development. 4. In addition, the organisation has power to do anything which is calculated to further its purposes or is conducive or incidental to doing so. Actlvltles and achlevements As noted within the last couple of Annual Reports, there have been some discussions regarding the possibility of RWSA hosting social event(s) in order to help us develop links with the Rwandan diaspora in Scotland. As before, little has been progressed in this regard and this will be fully discussed at our next Trustees meeting to explore why this was the case. RWSA continue to be very much involved in the organisation of Kwibuka, an annual commemorative service marking the anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda in 1994. Kwibuka 30 took place at The Haddington Com Exchange in Haddington on Saturday 13 April 2024. The use of the building was generously donated by East Lothian Council and we were pleased to be joined by who is their Provost. We were again delighted to be joined by the Rwandan e United Kingdom, His Excellency ommissioner The event, as always. was extremely emotional. who has been part of RWSA for many years, managed the proceedings. It commenced wi Inu Silence to reflect on the many lives that were lost and those that have been impacted by the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994. After watching a documentary on the Genocide Against the Tutsi. we heard from who spoke on the Holocaust Memorial Day 2024 theme. We then heard from who spoke on the theme of "Let's Make Bricks and Build for Them". a testimony came rom e powerful stories shared by genocide survivors who described their experiences of violence, but also their paths to healing, forgiveness, reconciliation, and post-traumatic growth.

We heard the testimony of was born in Nyanza, Rwanda on March 14th. 1980 where she lived with her paren san Ive si Ings. and her family were victims of the 1994 Rwanda genocide against the Tutsis. Her entire family was murdered during that genocide. was only fourteen years old when she was buried alive alongside her fifteen family mem ers yet later, miraculously rescued by a young man who worked for her family. is the only supiivor of her family. We then heard personal reflections on the genocide from for a number of years. This was then followed by messages o of the community and candles were lit (tumed on). who has been a part of RWSA commemoration by a number of members We then heard from East Lothian, how this who spoke positively about the relationship between Rwanda and ial of continuing to grown in future years. as epo en the Head of International Development for the Scottish Government, then spoke about ovemment's ongoing relationship with Rwanda and looked at ways that this could be co Is continued. The proceedings were concluded by His Excellency, who spoke eloquently about his opportunity to be surrounded by friends at the 30° ommemora ion o the Genocide against the Tutsi. After describing how the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994 nearly obliterated Rwanda and shook the world again, commenting on how the international community literally stood by and how Rwanda's extinction looked like the only, and obvious, destination, he stated "but we were seeds. Out of the ashes, we germinated and grew. These past 30 years represent the emergence of a generation shaped by the aftemiath of genocide and ready to sustain the unity and gr0￿h trajectory of our country" This was 8 statement that was well received by those in 8ttendance. We then had a time of fellowship together including sharing in food and drink that was prepared by a number of members of the Rwandan diaspora in Scotland and relationships were forged. ownerlbusiness partner at Tanifiki Coffee in Portobello generously supplied the co ee. first came to Scotland in 2015 to study at Edinburgh College however he subsequently opened Is coffee shop in 2022. up Following the event, discussions have begun to take place as to the locus of the next commemorative service as well as looking at ways of engaging with the Rwandan diaspora in Scotland. Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Rwanda Scotland Alliance, charity number SC048673 report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2025 which are set out on page 3.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The Charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The Charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention [other than disclosed below*]

  1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and

  3. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations have not been met, or

  4. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
