## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT**

Type of governing document: The charity operates under a SCIO constitution.

## Trustee recruitment and appointment:

as a charity at each AGM, the members may elect any member (unless he/she is debarred from membership under clause 55) to serve as a charity Trustee for a term of 3 years.

The Board may at any time appoint any member (unless he/she is debarred from membership under clause 55) to be a charity Trustee until the next Annual General Meeting of the organisation.

## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES**

## Charitable purposes:

The purpose of the organisation is to provide recreational facilities and advance the social needs, health and well-being of residents of all ages and backgrounds living in the Three towns and surrounding areas, by creating, developing and maintaining a facility, namely a community Shed **.** Offering opportunities for all in the Three towns area to meet and undertake creative, physical, purposeful and recreational activities of their choice. Reducing social isolation in the area thus contributing to their physical and mental well-being. Developing the capacity of all in the Three towns area to share their learned/occupational skills and knowledge with others in the community.

## **Achievements and Performance**

Summary of the main achievements of the Charity during this financial year.

With active grant and funding applications, the Shed has now almost completed the refurbishment and re-purposing of the new premises in Hill Street. With the addition of a second unit in the premises, we have now created the space required for both Men’s shed and she shed to function in the same space, although we still choose separate days/times, give or take a few crossovers. This is to facilitate discussions that may otherwise not take place within mixed sex company. This additional space has given us the added advantage of completely level access, coupled with our disabled toilet facilities we now have premises fit for all. The additional space ha also facilitated a growth in our membership, at around 12% over the past year. We continue to fulfil some larger commissions in the enlarged space and have shuffled the space to allow expansion into restoration projects whilst enlarging our 3D printing facilities to include a wood etching machine; all of which continues to bring us much needed donations to assist in running the group. We are still discussing opening more days although as previously we are still looking at the funding mechanisms which would allow this to happen..

The downside of our new premises is that we no longer have the previous advantage of being situated on the main street with a shop window, therefore we are having to rely more on our social media and web site to allow the public to see our finished wares. This has not happened to any great degree over the year because we struggle to get ordinary members to give the Trustees a hand with promoting the Shed, and the “working” Trustees are small in number.

Training on Men’s health has been provided by the Scottish Men’s Shed Association (SMSA) through whom we have had some wider promotion, but our aim for the next financial year is to get more training plans for our members and to promote ourselves at every opportunity we can.

Our major achievements have still been, being able to assist a few members who were struggling badly with their mental health to reach out and seek suitable help, in addition we are aware that a few of our members may have early onset dementia and we are proud to continue to give them

somewhere where they can engage with others, keeping them from succumbing too early, to this dreadful disease. We have continued to carry out building of items for the local community, mud kitchens & benches for schools, memory trees for local NHS facilities and a bench in memory of the leading light at the local allotment site.

Two neuro divergent members have been welcomed to the shed over the last year, both seem to have flourished in the environment and are designing and building their own woodwork projects, much of which they are building with no assistance, such is their self-confidence.

Sadly, we have lost a few members over the past year, we all miss them may they rest in peace.

|My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts
Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the
charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records.
