Annual Report and FlTrJndal Statements for the year ended 31 Decemb•r 2024
Achlev•m•nts:
Desplte many obstades we are approachlng our flrst goal whlth Is to get the slates over to
The Orthodox Church is sendign dear $1gns that thye wlsh to organlse a pigrimage to Ensay next
year. This is great news and wlll reconclle the ￿arfty with its aims.
Thls has focused the mlnd5 of volunteers to plan aThJ or9anise a trfp In the next ftw weeks t¢ draln
the land around the church buffildlrKJ. Indeed saTrJ and sand dunes move and accumulate around
physical ob#acles and In our case the churth Iloor has for years been V￿11 below the IEvel of the
surrounding machair. By dralnlng ralnwater below the churth floor level, we should prevent the
church gettign flooded once and for all.
The salllng bost which TWIII take these volunteers 1$ not adequate to take slates. For thls we need
boat which can land on the beach pemiitting the cratges of saltes belng taken off boat. moved to
higher grovnd above the beach and transpcrted to the Church. Thls can only be done by hand, wlth 2
volunteers per crate.
We had great hopes last year that the Fish fami that we had appmathed. would have helped us.
They ha￿ had staff recrultment diffKulties meanln9 that they dont have 4Hre hands to offer us help
anymore. We need to re-thlnk how we can get the sbate5 atsoss to the tsland.
A very good plece of Is ttwt finished his long research on St Taran who
brought Christlanity to thé Western Islès in the years arwln 450AD. He explains the Ilnk with Ensay
Church and how we can asortaln tI￿t thecorner wall on the left of the door dates from that period,
the rest having been destroyed by vlklngs. •earch has now been publshed In the ft>rm of
very conclse arrtl informative booklet. The baoklet Is now avallablke at a cost of £4.50.
