Objectives and activities
Accessibility Scotland came about as a way to fill a noticeable gap in the conference calendar in Scotland that was focused on digital accessibility.
Most digital events are for-profit and motivated by commercial or business goals, and when we created Accessibility Scotland, we didn't want to follow this path. Accessibility Scotland up as a not-for-profit in 2018.
A ground rule is that any meetups or our conference is not to be used as a platform to promote the business of the organisers, sponsors or speakers.
Accessibility Scotland's core aim is to educate and raise awareness of the importance of digital accessibility.
We do this by providing a platform to underrepresented voices and views in tech via our annual conference and smaller meet-ups.
Our charity is not the full-time occupation of our organisers and trustees; we do this in our free time and rely upon volunteers and businesses to help us run our events.

Structure, governance and management
Accessibility.scot aims to be formed as a single tier Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation. The primary advantage of this structure is that it provides a legal entity separate from individuals that can be engaged with by sponsors and organisations purchasing tickets for members of staff. Accessibility.scot does not have, nor is unlikely to develop, a large membership body, primarily being
comprised of those who are currently volunteering to organise and run the conference and meetups. A single tier structure most naturally aligns to this approach.
5
Achievements and performance
Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic we did not host a conference or any meetups. Many organisations moved to online conference delivery. Accessibility Scotland prides itself on bringing people together and didn’t feel that the online experience would adequately deliver on that goal.
