Objectives and activities
Charitable purposes
The constitutional aims of RSCDS Youth Branch are:
. To encourage youth membership.
To develop a communication vehicle specific to age group.
. To be worldwide, flexible and not location-based.
To increase the influence of Youth within the society.
. To give young dancers an increased sense of identity and
community.
. To be represented at AGM by delegates.
. To idents'fy potential members for the Youth Services Committee
Ysc
and other socie
committees.
The branch's Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held online from 22nd
to 28th April 2024, using Google Fomis in order to allow the maximum
number of members to participate and cast their vole. 16 members
participated in the AGM.
Summary of the main activities
in relation to these objects
The Youth Branch sends newsletters to our members and supporters by
email. The newsletter includes InfO￿atIOn on upcoming dancing events
around the world and articles written by members, speaking about their
experiences at recent events they have attended.

We have remained active on the Youth Branch's Facebook and Instagram
pages. These continue to be important methods of communication with our
members and with dancers outside of the branch who are interested in
what we do. We share branch news, upcoming events, and reminders to
our members to check their emails for our newsletters and to renew their
membership for the following year. We have also continued to maintsin our
Discord server, which we created last year, to provide a space for
members to have social interaction with each other from across the world,
share events happening near them and encourage each other to attend.
In October 2024, we held our annual Youth Weekend Away in Basel,
Switzerfand. We held classes for our youth members during the day on
Saturday. On Saturday evening we held a ball which was open to all ages.
On Sunday morning, parts'cipants were taken on a city tour before the
event came to an end.
We also held our second North American Youth Weekend Away. Our event
in Boston, USA followed the same format as previous weekend events.
Our travel grant scheme was opened again in July 2024 and February
2025. We received 6 totsl applications and shared £450 be￿een
successful applicants. enabling them to attend future RSCDS events, such
as our Youth Weekend Awa
and Summer School.

In October 2024, we had another successful Weekend Away in Europe,
this time in Basel, Switzerland. The event was well-attended, and featured

The dancers stayed at a popular youth hostel near the dancing venue and
the famous Basler Munster cathedral overlooking the Rhine River. The
weekend was a flurry of exciting dancing with attendees from the UK,
Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, and even the USA, among other
places. The European Weekends Away remain our core and most popular
events, and we are grateful to the local dancers who assisted us in
organising the weekend.
Also in October 2024, we also had our second Weekend Away in North
America in the historic city of Boston, building on last year's success in
Philadelphia. We saw high attendance from dancers from a variety of
experience levels. We collaborated closely with RSCDS Boston and the
Boston SDCEA throughout the weekend. One of the oldest branches of
the RSCDS in North America, we were drawn to Boston in part for ils
strong musical scene.

US National Scottish Fiddle Champion and 2016 Perth All Scotland Fiddle Championship winner; , on cello. also joined the evening Ball with a grand march on his bagpipes. The weekend began with a welcome party at a festive pub in the Back Bay neighborhood, complete with live music, creating space for our young dancers to socialize as a cohort. On Saturday, we had Youth Weekend classes at a local dance studio taught by and with playing solo in each class. The evening ball in Cambridge was a great hit, with at least 90 dancers attending. Sunday featured a city tour through Boston’s most historic areas, including the neighborhoods of Beacon Hill and the North End. Dancers learned about the city’s rich history, architecture, and culture from , who led them to landmarks like the Boston Common, Old State House, Granary Burial Ground, and Faneuil Hall. The Youth Branch was represented at the RSCDS AGM in November 2024.

We had further rounds of Travel Grants in July 2024 and February 2025. We have plans in place to try to increase the funding we are able to offer, to be able to help more dancers attend events that they would otherwise not be able to.

Our cooperation with the International Branch remains strong. This cooperation is important and beneficial for both branches due to us both being non-regional communities. Our existing no-cost reciprocal membership scheme allows a primary member of one branch to obtain free branch-only membership of the other. This collaboration has proven successful for increasing membership of both organizations. The Youth Branch social media pages and newsletters continue to be particularly important for our communication with members. Between April 2024 and March 2025, 4 newsletters were published.

We have remained active on the RSCDS Youth Branch Facebook and Instagram pages. These are important methods of communication for both our members and for other dancers outside our branch who are interested in what we do. Our Facebook page has over 1000 followers and our Instagram page has over 400 followers. Both pages receive healthy levels of engagement. Our social media pages enable us to share photos with our members from our Weekends Away and other events with a youth presence. They can also share photos with us and tag us in their stories, promoting Scottish dancing within their own social media circles.
