POPP is a lunch and social club for lonely, isolated older people. It offers them the chance to get out of their homes, share a meal and participate in social activities such as games, discussions, entertainments, and outings. It runs twice a week, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from the Portobello Baptist Church Hall. There are around 20 members at any one time. We rent the church hall, hire a minibus from a local transport charity to collect members from, and return them to, their homes, and the meal is provided at subsidised rates by Portobello High School. We charge members a modest fee. POPP is led by a management committee. There are currently five Trustees, including a Chair and Treasurer. POPP’s constitution provides for volunteers and members to each have a representative on the Committee, with the volunteer representative position currently filled. Day-to-day management is provided by a part-time, paid Project Organiser, supported by up to 20 volunteers.

Objectives: The organisation is established for charitable purposes only, and in particular, its purposes are to: 4.1 Provide relief to those in need by reason of disadvantage and provide recreational activities through the: 4.1.1 provision of a social and lunch club to older people to reduce social isolation and support mental and physical wellbeing of such persons 4.1.2 provision of respite to carers of such older person
