West Edinburgh Warriors 2024 – 2025 Summary of the Main Achievements

April 2024

April started with the conclusion of the national league seasons which saw our U18 SBC Division 2 team being crowned champions, for the first time in the Clubs young history we successfully won a national title. Majority of these players came through our pathway from U14 with many being part of our School of Basketball programme based at Tynecastle High School.

We also held our Easter Camp for kids in Primary 1 to S6 while our JR.NBA continued to run to engage the wider community in basketball.

May

May saw our Senior Mens team secure the league title and promotion into Division 1 of Lothian League after a 63-58 win over Polonia Masters which meant the team finished the season with 13 wins and 0 losses before going into the playoffs.

We also wrapped up our JR.NBA regular season which had 13 game days.

We also held “Study Sessions” before training to help support players with their revision during exams.

June

Our Senior Mens team reached the Play-off Final against Polonia Masters but sadly came up short on Finals day finishing second. 5 players were products of our youth pathway which is something we take great pride in while another 5 all volunteer to coach different teams within the Club.

Jr. NBA Finals Day took place which saw 6 teams compete to be crowned champions. This event was run and officiated by Club volunteers/players. ESMS were crowned champions after beating Sciennes in a close Final.

We also held our 4[th] Annual Awards night and Quiz, with over 150 members in attendance.

At the end of June we entered our U14 team into the SBC league for the first time, and to prove our ability we had to compete in a play in tournament at the end of June. The team travelled to Dundee to face competition from Inverness, North Lanarkshire and Perth with the team successfully winning all 3 games, securing SBC basketball for our U14’s for the first time in our young history.

July

Over 100 participants took part in our Summer Camp which was sponsored by Can’t Even Lift gym apparel who kindly bought us new bibs for the upcoming season.

Young volunteers helped out and upskilled themselves throughout the week.

August

All sessions started back and we opened up with some pre-season friendlies against city rivals Blaze.

September

As all leagues started this was the first time we entered 2 senior mens teams into the Lothian League as we continued to grow in numbers. These teams competed in Division 1 after promotion and Division 2. Opening fixtures saw our Division 1 side claim their first victory against Dunfermline Reign.

October

Due to hall availability we ran a 3 day holiday camp instead of the usual 5, however we still had lots of new faces come to the camp, enjoy it and subsequently join up to the club.

U12’s growing in size due to camps and also having 3 new young coaches who were recently qualified, two of which support in the delivery of basketball to local primary schools.

We also launched our new “Player of the Week” section on social media to help showcase the many talented individuals we have within our club. This went hand in hand with the start of the U14 SBC season which we started off with 2 wins out of 2.

November

We started the new Jr. NBA season with 10 primary schools taking part from across Edinburgh.

December

Teams received their Jr. NBA kits from Basketball Scotland

As we went into the Christmas break we had U14 SBC 2[nd] , U16 3[RD] in their respective SBC leagues along with our newly promoted mens team sitting 2[nd] .

We also ran a Jr. NBA 3x3 Tournament for our U14 players.

January

Leagues started back for all age groups.

We secured a photography student to work with us for 6 months to widen their portfolio while also enabling us to have better images for our social media.

February

We kicked off February planning and hosting our Camp, in which we held a Show and Go event for basketball Scotland which was focused around teaching younger coaches new skills and how to develop dynamic players at U12. We had 5 coaches in attendance.

March

U14 SBC won their league after a big victory on the road against second place Ayr Storm. Many of our U14’s throughout the year had been trialling for the Scotland National team which will compete in Glasgow in the Home Nations Tournament. We successfully had 1 player making it into the final 15.
