Annual Report

Glasgow Chinese Recreation Centre

Established in 2018, the Glasgow Chinese Recreation Centre is a non-profit charitable organization with over 400 members. Our aim is to provide a healthy and happy life for Chinese and local residents in Glasgow. We dedicated to bringing together Chinese immigrants and providing diverse activities for different groups in Glasgow.

Our mission is to promote traditional Chinese culture while embracing the diversity of ethnic cultures within society. Throughout the year, we organize various cultural and social activities, especially those related to traditional Chinese festivals, encouraging community participation and engagement.

These social activities help our members build connections, improve social skills, and adapt to life in Scotland. They also contribute to better health and well-being by fostering communication and a sense of belonging.

Community Goals

Our community's goal is to impact our life-wellbeing through five healthy lifestyles and contribute to our society, so as to reduce the burden of NHS.

  1. Better mental health for elder

  2. Better physical health for elder

  3. Stronger community Support

  4. Cleaner environment

  5. More holistic educational and social opportunities: English, Music, Dance, Sports, Gardening.

Community Support & Special Initiatives

Recognizing that many of our members belong to the first generation of Chinese migrants in Scotland, we understand the challenges of limited family connections. Our centre provides an essential support network where members can form friendships, share experiences, and stay connected.

With generous support, in February 2024, we successfully secured a £10,000 wellbeing fund from Glasgow City Council. In June 2024, we also received National Lottery funding, which allowed us to launch more activities.

Community Allotment

Our community allotment locates in Springburn. Focusing on health and wellbeing are our aim. It allows our members to cut our carbon footprint by growing our own vegetables and flowers as well as making fantastic habitats for wildlife such as robins, hedgehogs, frogs and

bumblebees. Our plot is a great place to get up close views of wildlife. It supports our members to improve our physical and mental health and well-being by being outdoors, being active, connected to nature and within our community. While we develop ourselves, we help other communities and contribute to our society.

Annual Events & Cultural Celebrations

Each year, we organize outdoor activities, such as strawberry and cherry picking, to provide elderly members with experiences outside their usual routines.

We arrange group trips and celebrate major Chinese festivals. Additionally, we hold a monthly birthday party on the first Wednesday of each month to celebrate members born in that month.

At the Glasgow Chinese Recreation Centre, we strive to foster a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive community, enriching the lives of local Chinese residents through cultural, educational, and recreational activities. We welcome everyone to join us.
