Objectives and Activities

Strichen Mother and Toddlers registered as a charity in 2017 after operating as a toddler group for many years prior to this.

The group generally operates twice per week, with school holidays having an exception.

It is the aim of the group to provide a welcoming environment for parents/carers/grandparents to come along and enjoy with the children in their care.

We are a supportive and positive group who are there for one another, whilst also providing the children with a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment to enhance their development.

Strichen Toddlers provides all attendees the chance to socialise with other children and adults in their local area.

We provide the children with opportunities to develop their gross and fine motor skills and provide a range of resources to aid the children’s development.

We also organise regular outings/sessions — for example pottery, bookbug, child smile, singing, inflatable, etc.

During the summer we organise weekly trips to local places — e,g, Fraserburgh beach, Strichen lake, Aden Park — to get out and about and enjoy our local surroundings.

Structure, Governance and Management

Type of governing document:

Strichen Mother and Toddlers adheres to the Early Years Scotland constitution for Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO).

Trustee Recruitment and Appointment

The above-mentioned trustees (no. 1-4) were appointed following our Annual General Meeting in August 2023.

The above-mentioned trustees (no. 5-8) were appointed following our Annual General Meeting in September 2024 and for the purposes to this Trustees Annual Report, this is the committee in which | refer to.

The group of charity trustees have been selected due to their broad range of skills and experience.

Achievements and Performance

We have hada brilliant year with a lovely group of children and their parents/carers/grandparents.

As usual, with the support of our community, our fundraising efforts for the year went really well.

We had several toy cleans in the year. This gives us a chance to evaluate the toys and give the cupboard a good tidy up. The help from parents/carers during these meetings are greatly appreciated.

Halloween parties were held the last week of October where the kids got to dress up, play a few spooky games and take part in some crafts. We also had our Christmas Party where Santa came to visit the children and they all got a great gift. Some were more happy to see Santa than others!

During the Easter, the kids got to decorate some eggs. At the end of the session they got to roll them down the hill outside the hall. Some were rolled and some were thrown! We love this tradition.

To end the year before the summer holidays, we had a trip to the Fairywoods. The children loved looking for the fairies and the trip ended with some smores and hot chocolate.

During the summer holidays we had “away days” instead of the usual sessions and the hall. These included a day to Aden Park and Fetterangus Park. We were very lucky with the weather this year! To end the holidays we held our Summer Party at the hall. We had bouncy castles, ice cream and some party food.

Other

We continue to communicate with parents and carers through our private Facebook Group and Whatsapp group. This works well for the committee and the attendees.

Fundraising/Charity Donation

Our main fundraiser this year was a Coffee Morning held in the Ritchie Hall in April. We had some local craft stalls attend and had a Family Lego lucky square to raise extra funds. The local community were great at supporting the event and it was very well attended. We raised a brilliant amound of money for the club.

Our other fundraiser was the lucky squares for a Scratch Card bouquet which we did in November. Parents and Carers were asked to hand in scratch cards to make up the bouquet and the squares sold really well. The funds raised for this were put towards the gifts that the kids got from Santa.

Financial Review

Statement of the charity’s policy on reserves

We do not hold a set amount in the bank account as a reserve, however we do always ensure there is a healthy amount to continue to pay the hall fees if the number of attendees fluctuates.

Should the committee ever feel that the funds are dropping considerably, an evaluation would be made, and extra fundraising/session fee assessment would take place to cover any projected deficit.

Future Plans

We are looking forward to another great year at Strichen Toddlers, continuing to hold our usual sessions on a Tuesday and Friday.

We continually evaluate the toys and equipment we have for the children and these will continue to be updated and renewed.

We hope the children will continue to enjoy the little extras that the committee organise such as Christmas and Halloween parties, trips to the fairy woods and such like. A Lot of effort is put in to these sessions and the children really love them.

Fundraising will continue to play a big role in the running of the group. The money raised plays a role in allowing session fees to remain low, which enables everyone who wants to attend can attend. We look forward to seeing what events will take place in the future.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of

Strichen Mother & Toddlers

Registered Charity Number: SC047940

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 30 June 2025 which are set out on pages 9 to 11.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity trustees consider that the audit

requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts

Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees

concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

  3. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

have not been met, or

  1. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
