registered with OSCR on 31 St August 2017.
Trustee recruitment and appointment
Trustees are appointed and resign in line with the dauses within their goveming
document. In the first year of operabon. all trustees wll resign and then are
deemed to be elected en bloc. In subsequent years trustees appointed be￿￿n
one AGM and another shall retire and of the remaining trustees, one third shall
retire. Al may be Mppointed at the next Board meeting.
Objectives and activities
Charitable purposes
The Trust aiffts to restore the hlstoric ex-parish church of St Marls at Burwlck.
South Ronaldsay. disused since 1932, bought by the Trust from Church of Scotland
with donat￿nS from the local communty. The 18th Century church occupies what is
believed to be the oldest Christian site in Orkney and houses the 'Ladykirk Stone., a
Pictish coronation stone believed to have been kept on this srte since at least
medieval times.
It also ams to develop the church as a cuttural and herrtage eentre for Ihe island of
South Ronaldsay wtth artefacts. displays and interpretation relating to the hlstory of
the church and its contents and the history. culture and natural environment of the
local area" to provide a communty space for act'vthes such as concerts and talks;
and to promote the study and conservaticffl of the natural heritsge of the parish.
Summary of the main activities
in relation to these objects
1. Intbally repair the fabric of the church. currently largely carried out with voluntary
work partie5 from the communty" in the longer temi to develop a plan for major
restoration
2. Initialty open the Church to the public for viewlng of the buildlng and artefacts
including the Latykirk Stone: subsequently seek grant aid for rtrmodelling of interior
design and more comprehenswe displays.
3. Use the space for fijnctions and events.

Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements
of the charity during the financial
period
We fomed as a SMPT in 311AugusV2017 with oscer. With the aim to support
kne restorati￿ and preservation of St MarWs Church
In the last year we have been working on the following tasks.
Charley is to collect the guttering and paint with volunteers. builder to instal
as soon as he has time reseNes are in place for this work.
The grant application forcovid recovery from Orkney Islan Council was
Successful￿ obtained. In total £3(W of which 3(K) comes irbto the accounts
next financial year.
We also help with the sounds project which was run by Sheena Graham-
George. Whis resulted in lots of local storeys being recorded.
Events & ￿nd rnlslng
The fund raisin8 and events was very successful in this year. Wtth two events bein8 held
Bonfire
A community Bonfire was held which raised £350. This was a great event with the
community coming together. L￿￿5 made soup and home bakes there was a raffle. and
it was a good vent with over around 100 people attending.
Fi•lds of tim• proj•ct
We were successful in obtaining a covid recovery grant1£25(K)I forni Orkney Island
council in 2024 financial year. This was for community enga8ement and recovery from
covid. This amount of fundin8 was from the Herttage section of Orkney Island council.
was commissioned to do this projert.
The purpose of the project wa5 to engage locals in their community by recording field
name5 in the local area of the church. There were also pictures taken of redundant hand
farm tools and equipment. This was also to engage the farrning community into the
project. The deliverable of this project was events which happened in this finantial year.
On the back of this
was commissioned to do an additional work which was to
collate the field names iiiio a tapestry. This is on80inB.
Financial review

Brief statement of the charity's policy The Trust is still in a good financial posttion because of fund-raising efforts
on reserves
in this and previous year, with available cash now stsnding at £10,716.
This will enable urgent repairs to be undertaken.
Reserves Policy
The Trust is committed to holding sufficient fvnds to meel forthcoming
commitrnents such as repair and insurance costs. The current improved
siluation is sufficient at present.
Plans for the future period
The Trust will continue to cary out repairs and restorations. There is a
healthy willingness to holed public event with the community to evolve
them with this building.
Details of any deficit
There are rK) deficits as we have received more than we have paid out.
Donated facilities and services (if any) Thanks must go to the inttial anonymous donots that donated the money
for the purchase of the church. As well thanks must be given to the
committee that have raised money over the last year. Finale to thank is all
donations given to the church by visitr*s.

**1. Basis of accounting** 

These accounts have been prepared on the Receipts and Payments basis in 

accordance with the Charities & Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). 

## **2. Trustee Remuneration and Related Party Transactions** 

There were no trustee remunerations during the period and no trustee had any personal interest in any contract or transaction entered into by the charity. 

No trustees received reimbursed expenses during the period 

## **3. Purpose of Funds** 

## Unrestricted funds 

Unrestricted funds are those that may be used at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the objects of the charity. 

## Restricted funds 

The St Mary's Church funds are those received in order to purchase (including costs associated with purchase) and restore St Mary's Church, Burwick. 

## **4. Banking** 

The Trust banks with Vergin money, Kirkwall branch.
