We are one of the branches who work as part of Samaritans charity. We offer confidential non-judgmental support to anyone of any age who is going through emotional difficulties or distress which may lead to feelings of despair or even suicide. We are committed to reducing the number of people who end their own lives. Our volunteers work shifts both during the day and night. This service is free to all and we do not get paid for doing this work. We do outreach into the community and to S3 pupils in our High Schools where we stress the importance of good mental health and where they can go for support it times of difficulty We also do fundraising as we have to raise the money to run this service. We receive apply for and receive grant funding from Shetland Charitable Trust to reimburse our volunteers for their essential travel costs.
