STANLEY & DISTRICT MEN'S SHED CHARITY NO $CO47528
REGISTERED ADDRESS 36 MILL STREEY STANLEY PH1 4LZ
This is our 8th year in operation and we are gradually expanding our operations at East Lodge Stanley Mills PH1 4QE. Our membership is gradually increasing with additional skills being added to by new members who are able to pass on new skills to others. We now have an area to display our articles for sale, a fully functioning kitchen, a woodturning and joiners workshop, a metal working area, painting section, cycle repair workshop, a computer suite complete with 3D printer and 2 CNC machines with cutting tools and laser printing facilities to engrave wood and slate.
Our beekeeping is still progressing well and more of our members are getting involved in helping to look after the bees. We have had some more honey this year again and this was distributed among our membership. Our community orchard is now completed and we have a total of 156 fruit trees planted in three separate locations. The fruit trees have all been sponsored and are all progressing well and we have had some fruit from the orchard in the autumn, the fruit is is free for the local community to pick. We have been offered additional land from Scottish National Heritage to extend the orchard area which we propose to start in the spring of 2026. During this financial year we received a donation of £240 from the red squirrel society for making feeding boxes to allow them to monitor the areas where grey squirrels are present and to control the population to protect the red squirrels. We also received a donation of £65 from the Denmarkfield Rewilding Project for the supply of planters We have also been able to raise funds from the sale of wood and metal crafts made by our members and from donations for carrying out minor repair jobs for the local community. We have had two very successful Sales of work in March and November at the Stanley Bowling Club. This has allowed us to purchase another wood turning lathe, a chain saw, a dust extraction system, a vacuum cleaner and a variety of small power and hand tools. In May this year we held our area Scottish Men's Shed meeting with members of other local Men's Sheds represented to share stories and ideas for new projects. In November we made a Christmas decoration for the Stanley Christmas Street lighting Group to mount on one of the street lamps as part of the display. We also donated two Christmas trees to Stanley School for them to display and sell for school funds. Our opening hours are every Tuesday and Thursday from 10.00am to 4.00pm. We are also open on the 1“ Saturday each month from 10.00am until 2.00pm when we have items for sale available for locals to purchase.
