Activities

'It carries out activities or services itself'

'the prevention or relief of poverty','the advancement of education','the promotion of equality and diversity'

Out aim is to use access to legal education, guidance, advice, and representation to tackle unmet legal need, discrimination and poverty in Scotland. The majority of the services are free at the point of delivery and we are able to sustain this business model through dedicated funding and reinvesting of generated income to cross-subsidise free legal services to vulnerable clients with unmet legal needs.

Objectives: The organisation's purposes are: (a) To prevent and relieve poverty by increasing the availability of, and facilitating access to, legal advice, assistance and representation geared to the special needs of persons who are in a state of poverty, or at risk of poverty, where such advice, assistance and representation could not readily be obtained by such persons elsewhere. (b) To promote equality and diversity, and advance human rights through the provision of legal advice, assistance and representation to persons in need of assistance, where such legal advice, assistance and representation could not readily be obtained by such persons elsewhere. (c) To advance education and in particular, to increase knowledge and awareness of the law in the fields of housing, homelessness, social security, personal debt, consumer matters, equal opportunities, human rights, public law, rights of victims of crime or accidents, employment, disability, community care, mental health, children and social work, and all other fields in relation to which there appears, in the opinion of the Charity Trustees, to be a general knowledge and awareness of the law.
