The charity is set up to promote the greater understanding and recognition of the natural and cultural heritage of Galloway, primarily through seeking its designation as a National Park, and to promote a greater understanding of the benefits of it being a National Park. Trustees meet with authorities at all levels, including the Scottish Government, and engage with local communities to explain both the wonders of Galloway and the issues and benefits relating to its designation as a National Park.

Objectives: The organisation's purposes, so far and so far only as the same are legally charitable, within the area of Galloway (including parts of South and East Ayrshire), are: To promote the protection, conservation and enhancement of the natural and cultural assets of the area for public benefit To promote, undertake and publish research into issues affecting conservation and enjoyment of the natural and cultural heritage of the area and to identify how this may be furthered through the designation of a National Park To advance public education in and understanding of how a National Park could contribute to improving health and wellbeing through the enjoyment, understanding or enhancement of the area's natural and cultural asset
