Structure and Administration
The Charity was established and registered on 06 March 2017 and its object
is to advance the Orthodox Christian Faith, as defined in the Constitution
document. It does this primarily through its support for the canonical Ortho-
dox community of the Holy Archangel Gabriel, Glasgow G12 8LE which is a
community within the Archdiocese of Orthodox Parishes in Western Europe.
Public Benefit
The Trustees have given formal consideration to the charities objects and re~
quirements and consider that the activities of the Foundation are in the pub-
lic benefit and fulfil its objectives.
Vulnerable Beneficiaries
The trustees have adopted formal policies for the protection of children and
vulnerable beneficiaries, details of which are readily available to those at-
tending the worship and activities of the Community.
Review of the Year . Activities and Performance

Our community is part of the U.K. Deanery of the Archdiocese of Orthodox
parishes of the Russian tradition in Western Europe. The community is
served by our priest
and by
both being
non-stipendiary.
This is the eighth full year of the communities existence and has seen a
marked increase in activity and in growth. The numbers attending services
and activities has doubled and the demands and expectations have multi-
plied. The trust has facilitated the communities growth through increased
funding to meet the now daily use of the chapel and common rooms and
through the provision of needed liturgical vestments, icons and equipment.
Having successfully refocused and facilitated the community to take advan-
tage of online,multi-media,social media avenues in the previous years we
have continued and further developed this throughout 2024. Meetings and
services continue to be streamed and daily zoom meetings take place allow-
ing those at a distance and our more vulnerable members to be nurtured
spiritually and to be cared for. This continues to be a very positive addition
in the communities outreach and and has led to real growth and we again
are pleased and heartened to notice this growth. Numbers attending ser-
vices and taking part in programs has roughly doubled and has led to an ur-
gency to provide a bigger worship space and meeting rooms. To this end in
February of 2025 the trust took on a lease of a bigger building in the centre
of Glasgow which, added to our current chapel in the west end of Glasgow
in the heart of the University of Glasgow, has helped us meet this need. This
year has seen a deficit in our budget for the first time. This is largely due to
the need to furnish and make available all of the required Liturgical items for
Orthodox worship in a second location. Our accounts are healthy and we
can sustain this deficit as the long term benefit is clear. We have regular on-
line visitors from all over Scotland but also from England, America, Australia,
Holland, Russia and Switzerland. The Crypt chapel was open every day and
continued to serve the needs of, particularly, the orthodox Christians in Scot-
land seeking to further their faith and to celebrate in a language they under-
stand. The wider university community and also the community at large are
fully welcomed and we had visitors and enquirers from all over Scotland and
beyond. It is wonderful to welcome so many people and to witness the cur-
rent surge in interest in the Orthodox faith.. We are very grateful to Wellington
Church of Scotland who very kindly accommodate us in the Crypt of their
church and who allow us great freedom to utilise their facilities when we
needed during this year. Their hospitality has been invaluable and given us
the security to develop and grow our ministry with confidence.
The church was open for prayer everyday and it was rare for there to be a
time that no-one was inside saying a prayer or having a quiet moment. Our
Charlotte street location was mostly used on weekends and held a midweek

youth group meeting and choir practice.The community met officially for Di-
vine Liturgy on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and usually fol-
lowed these gatherings by eating together and in fellowship. The community
food bank mission continues and seems to be ever more needed and fortu-
nately we have been in the position to help. They community provides a
warm space every day where people can come and be warm, be fed, use
the internet and simply be cared for. In the year we continued our usual icon
and music workshops in person, and we continued to offer classes in Greek
and in Russian and ￿aS held workshops on the making of
prayer ropes and assists a small group of theology students who struggle
with their Ecclesiastical Greek course. Our different groups have continued
to work on developing prayer books and on the production of liturgical items
such as crosses and icons and religious cards. A lot of work has been done
to further our music ministry. We again thank1*￿￿*1￿0r their work
with the choir. Our students and young adult group continue to meet regular-
ly and a new initiative of talks and presentations based on members own ex-
perience of faith and orthodoxy within Scotland has continued and is proving
to be very popular.
The community is made up of people from primarily Scotland, Greece, Rus-
sia and Romania but also we have Americans, Australians, Dutch and Chi-
nese and now a small number of Syrian and Iraqi refugees attend and re-
ceive support from us. It is a great blessing and the Lord's prayer is sung in
the languages reflecting the countries and backgrounds of our parishioners.
The very sad war between Russia and Ukraine continues and this led to a
large influx of Ukrainians, and, being of the Orthodox faith many have sought
help and spiritual guidance from the community. The Trust through the
community has welcomed, housed, fed and supported many Ukrainian
refugees since the start of the war and continues to do so. Most now are
settled and in jobs or in receipt of benefits so are in less financial need but
the spiritual and social needs are still very strong and the care and support
of all refugees, whether from Ukraine, Syria, Iraq or wherever is a key focus
of the Trust and the community and is likely to remain so in the coming year.
We thank all members and supporters for the generosity and kindness they
have shown this year with this endeavour.
Our members and visitors are nurtured in the Christian faith by a sermon dur-
ing each Liturgy, the didactic nature of the liturgical services and by our well-
stocked library. There were baptisms and people were received into the
church by Chrismation after a period of preparation by our priest. The Trust
is pleased to see growth in all aspects of the communities life and work.

and its members by visiting them regularly, especially those who live at some

distance from the church, are elderly, in ill-health, or incapacitated and un-
able to get to church. Arrangements were made for parishioners to bring to
church in their cars those who do not have their own transport and would
otherwise be unable to attend meetings.
We traditionally hold many social events in the year - our Christmas fair, the
celebration of major Feasts etc where there is food, games for the children
and even live music. This year saw a full calendar of these events. Our com-
mitted church warden and Advisory Council are hugely valued and they con-
tinue to look at ways of encouraging the growth of the community and the
participation and involvement of more people in the service of the church.
Financial support
As the number of the community and of those exploring the Orthodox faith
grows so does our fundraising capacity. The needs and expenditure have
grown also but mostly this year as the Trust has purchased more needed
and essential Liturgical items for the performing of appropriate Orthodox
worship in a second venue. It has been a joy to witness this need and to be
able to meet it. The community still has a long-term goal of acquiring its
own dedicated place of worship whilst contributing towards the cost of a
full-time, housed and dedicated priest. As our community grows this need
becomes more pressing and we are continuing our search for bigger and
more permanent premises for the development of an Orthodox Centre
where our worship and charitable activities can continue and flourish even
more. We continue to welcome and assist all those who come to us as best
we can. We would like to thank￿and the Kiltwalk organisation
for their support to charities like ours. Although the funds raised are no
longer topped up by 50 % their support has been invaluable to us again this
year and has allowed us not only to continue to meet our obligations and
aims but to develop and further them.
As of 31 st March 2025 the impact of the Ukraine war on the life and work of
the Trust and community is ongoing but we will continue to develop and to
take care of each other and our obligations in a spirit of faith, hope and char-
ity.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all who have been so gen~
erous in donating money and time to our charity and to the people of
Wellington Church of Scotland for their hospitality.

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordan
with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the
Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity trustees
consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations
does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section
44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent My examination is carried out in accordan￿ with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts
examiner's statement Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the
charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes
consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks
explanations from the trustees con￿MIng any such matters. The prO￿dureS undertaken
do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do
not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
