It was registered in its current legal form on 21[st] February 2017. The charity was previously an unincorporated association but changed its legal form to a SCIO. The assets of the unincorporated association were transferred to the SCIO on the 1[st] March 2017. It has a single tier structure and as such the trustees are the members of the charity. ## **Appointment of Trustees** The management committee, which normally meet at least once per school term, are the charity’s trustees. Membership of the management committee is open to all members of the local community who have an interest in the Balerno 2G pitch. Trustees are elected at the Annual General Meeting which is held in the autumn. There must be a minimum of 3 (three) and a maximum of 11 (eleven) trustees. ## **Appointments & Retirals** ## **Objectives / Aims / Charitable purposes** The organisation’s purposes are: 1. Provide recreational facilities and encourage the organisation of recreational activities with the objective of improving the well being and conditions of life for all members of the local Balerno community and neighboring villages, for whom the facilities and activities are primarily intended; and 2. Provide the advancement of public participation in sport. The organisation aims to achieve this by: - a. Facilitating the management and provision of the 2G Pitch located at 5 Bridge Road, Balerno EH14 7AQ (referred to as the "2G Pitch"), for the recreational, leisure and sporting use of all members of the local community without limit on age or ability. - b. Promoting and encouraging the use of the 2G Pitch. - c. Engage in the initiatives for the promotion of healthy living, participation in sport and community recreational and leisure activities. ## **Activities** The charity provides a 2G synthetic surface sports pitch based at the Balerno High School. The pitch is held by a lease directly from the City of Edinburgh Council. The pitch is available for school use during school times and is available for booking by other local community groups and individuals at all other times. Booking details can be found at www.Balerno2gbooking.space ## **Achievements and Performance** The pitch is in use most days. Currently the use is shared between Balerno High School curricular activities, lunch time play and after-school extracurricular clubs. It is also used by Dean Park Primary School's PTA's sports clubs as well as the Currie Football Club on a limited basis. The pitch is considered a valuable asset to the village of Balerno as it supplements and compliments the other sporting facilities available. ## **Financial review** The Balerno 2G SCIO has finally recovered following Covid Pandemic. Income to the organisation has been sufficient to cover costs over the 12 month period. For the Year to end of February 2025 the income received was £4032.50. The income for the comparable period last year was £13,334.98. It should be noted that over 90% of the 2024 income amount came from one user and around £9,000 related to previous years’ pitch usage. This income this most year was more balanced from the various users. Standing operational costs were pitch maintenance (including lights), insurance and web listing. The total operational costs paid out were £2,158.99 (2024 - £2,774.34). The pitch made an operating profit of £1,873.91 £10,560.64. This compares to profit for the year to End of February 2024 of £10,560.64, which included income relating to previous years’ usage. ## **Reserves policy** The trustees’ have decided to maintain the previous policy of retaining 12 months’ running costs. It is hoped the Reserves Policy can be revised once income has improved. The Trustees have a continuing desire to create a sinking fund to allow for pitch improvement measures. The amount within the sinking fund will be reconsidered as the income continues to improve. ## **Plans for the future period** The Trustees reported last year that they were undertaking a strategic review of the operations, objectives, aims and purposes of the Balerno 2G SCIO and were starting to engage with local stakeholders to seek out the options available. This process is continuing. It also has to be recognised that the initial period of lease for the pitch from the local council has expired and occupational rights are based upon _Tacit Relocation_ and therefore no major investment is anticipated. The Trustees want to ensure that the pitch continues to be available to the local school’s clubs and hopes to continue building the number of pitch users. Income has grown stabilized. The trustees continue to want to expand income to allow for pitch maintenance, including regular pitch remarking, improved lighting and higher & better fencing in the future. Relining (pitch marking) has been completed in this financial year. ## **Notes to the accounts - for the year ended 29 February 2024** ## **1 Basis of accounting** These accounts have been prepared on the Cash basis in accordance with the Charities & Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). ## **2 Nature and purpose of funds** Unrestricted funds are those that may be used at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the objects of the charity. The trustees maintain a single unrestricted fund for the day-to-day running of the pitch. Restricted funds may only be used for specific purposes. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for specific purposes. There are currently no restricted funds. ## **3 Related party transactions** No remuneration was paid to the Trustees or any connected persons during the year.
