2024/2025: A Year Like No Other Bringing Community Together eee
e e a a
ple
At the beginning of 2025, we chose the theme “Bringing Community Together”— a sentiment that felt meaningful and inspiring. What we didn’t realise at the time was just how significant and central that concept would become over the course of the year.
This has been a year of growth, challenge, celebration, and reflection. It has truly required the support, resilience, and unity of Kirkcolm’s people to navigate through what has been one of the Trust’s busiest and most transformative periods to date.
From expanding our services and increasing operational hours at the Community Hub, to hosting a wider range of activities, events, and youth programmes, our aim throughout the has been clear: to strengthen our village through meaningful connection, opportunity, and support. With the introduction of our new role as administrators of the Glenapp Windfarm Community Benefit Fund, we’ve taken a huge step forward in being able to directly support local projects and ideas — empowering individuals, families, groups, and businesses to thrive.
Behind every project, every event, and every decision this year has been a single driving force: community. Whether it’s the volunteers who give up their time, the local organisations we collaborate with, or the people who simply show up to take part — none of what we do would be possible without the support and participation of our residents.
“2024/2025 has been the busiest year to date for Kirkcolm Community Trust. It’s not been without its challenges — but it has definitely been one to remember.” Ei eee. Com munity Development Manager.

e e aee What We Have Experienced This Year The period 2024-2025 has turned out to be a pivotal 12 months for Kirkcolm Community Trust— a year marked by growth, achievement, recognition, and an ever-stronger sense of community control.
“The last 12 months have been so busy — but it has been the kind of busy that matters. We’ve been laying down solid foundations and pushing forward with plans that are now starting to take real shape. It’s been a year of action, growth, and meaningful progress — and above all, a year that shows how strong Kirkcolm’s community spirit truly is. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together.”juts Chairperson
a Growth- This year, we experienced the largest period of growth in the Trust’s history. Our only staff member was promoted to Community Development Manager, reflecting the expanded scope of her responsibilities and leadership. We also welcomed a Community Support Worker, to assist with day-to-day operations. This investment in people has enabled us to offer more to the community than ever before — from events and grant support, to increasing opening hours and youth programmes.
% Control- One of our proudest achievements was completing the Agreement with Scottish Power Renewables to allow us to take on the administration of the Glenapp Windfarm Community Benefit Fund. Gaining this responsibility, alongside securing a back payment for the village, wasa huge step forward in community empowerment. This is local money for local benefit, and a milestone in building a more self-sustaining and ambitious community.
&& Achievement- After completing a Community Asset Transfer process with Dumfries & Galloway Council in 2023, we acquired the community car park from the Council. The Trust has since taken bold steps to revitalise the space. For some time, we weren’t sure what direction to take — but in 2025, we madea start. Our team identified six essential phases needed to transform the site into a fully usable community asset. We’re pleased to report that Phases 1, 2, and3 have already been completed, with a goal tofinalise the project by Autumn 2026. This is a testament to our determination and ability to turn vision into action. Recognition- It’s also been the year in which Kirkcotm Community Trust was truly recognised as the beating heart of the village. Whether through community events, the shop, Foody Friday, Welcome Wednesday, or youth club activities, we have become a go-to hub for support, connection, and opportunity. Our community hub is regularly used by local groups, and more exciting plans are in development. It’s an honour to be seen as the main provider of help and support in Kirkcolm — and we don't take that trust lightly

Delivering on Our Community Plan
In line with the Kirkcolm and Parish Community Plan, 2022-2027, Kirkcolm
Community Trust was tasked with delivering sixteen community-identified priorities — all shaped by local voices and reflective of the needs, hopes, and ambitions of the people of Kirkcolm.
We are proud to report that, to date, Kirkcolm Community Trust has successfully completed ten of these sixteen priorities. This alone represents a significant achievement, and it’s a testament to the hard work of our staff, trustees, volunteers, and wider community members.
The remaining six priorities, while not yet fully delivered, have not been forgotten. Some are longer-term goals, while others face external barriers that currently prevent progress — however, we are committed to addressing these head-on in 2026 as part of our Strategic planning.
This progress marks a major milestone in our journey and reinforces our commitment to being a community-led, action-driven organisation that listens, adapts, and delivers.

Our 10 Completed Priorities (as identified in the Kirkcolm & Parish
Community Plan)
1. Engaging with Young People
We've successfully created regular opportunities for the young people of Kirkcolm to engage in meaningful, fun, and safe activities. From our weekly Youth Club to trips, workshops, and free theatre experiences — young voices are now being hea rd, and supported, like never before.
2. Activities for Older Members of the Community
Our older residents now benefit from inclusive social opportunities through initiatives like Welcome Wednesday, Foody Friday, and various seasonal events. These gatherings offer vital connection, reduce isolation, and bring people together ina supportive environment.
3. Access to Essential Community Services
The Hub is now a central, accessible location for information, support, and signposting. Residents can drop in, ask questions, and access services that were previously difficult to reach without travelling out of the village. 4
4. Fit-for-Purpose Meeting Space
The renovation and reimagining of the Community Hub has created a warm, accessible space that is now used by local groups, organisations, and individuals for meetings, workshops, and events. It’s a space the community can truly callits own.
5. Access to Staple Grocery Items
Thanks to our community-run shop, residents now have access to everyday essentials within Kirkcolm. This has been especially valuable for those with limited transport and for creating a more sustainable village.
6. Operational Community Café
The Café has becomea lively, welcoming space for residents and visitors alike. Beyond food and drink, it offers a real sense of belonging and provides training and volunteering opportunities for locals.
7. Walking Trails Development
We’ve begun the development of local walking trails to promote health, wellbeing, and the natural beauty of our area. This also supports localtourism and outdoor recreation for residents.
8. Accessible Public Toilets
Public toilets are now open and available via the Community Hub — a much-needed

amenity for both locals and visitors, encouraging greater use of our village spaces and events.
9. Car Park Upgrade in Progress
While this remains an ongoing project, significant progress has been made — with Phases 1, 2, and 3 completed. Ownership has been transferred from the Council, and development is actively underway, bringing us closer to a fully upgraded community parking facility.
10. Supporting Local Groups to Grow
We have actively worked to build the confidence and capacity of community groups in Kirkcolm through funding support, training, and shared space. This has empowered residents to lead their own initiatives and make meaningful contributions to village life.

What We Learned in 2025
Every day is a learning day—and 2025 has certainly reminded us of that! It’s been a busy year, filled with dedication, energy, and hard work from our Trustees, Employees, and our small team of volunteers.
One key lesson has become very clear: to keep growing and delivering the big, fun, and exciting events Kirkcolm loves, we need more volunteers. The success of our events shows just how much potential we have—but also that our Community Development Manager (CDM) can’t do it all alone. With extra hands, she could focus on creating even more amazing experiences for everyone to enjoy.
Volunteering with Kirkcolm Community Trust is flexible and can fit around your lifestyle and commitments. Whether you have a few hours or a few days, every bit of support makes a real difference. And to show our appreciation, all volunteers will have access to a range of FREE training courses, including PVG, Food Hygiene, First Aid, and more. It’s a chance to gain skills, build confidence, and grow personally while giving back to the community.
With your help, we can ensure 2026 is even bigger, brighter, and more memorable. Let’s make it a year full of laughter, connection, and community spirit—together!
This Report was presented at the AGM on 9" October 2025.
