## **Charity Trustees**

The board may at any time appoint any person to be a charity trustee - by way of a resolution passed by majority vote at a board meeting. As detailed in the constitution.

**4**

## **Objectives**

Our charity was established in 2017 after consultation with parents/carers of the 54 autistic children who at that time attended Orchard Primary Language and Communication Support Centre. There were strong needs identified at this consultation for peer support, emotional help for a caring role, further education about autism/strategies to help and activities autistic children could attend which suited their needs.

We aim to

- provide practical and emotional support to families with children attending Orchard Primary Language and Communication Support Centre.

- Organise recreational activities for families, carers and children attending Orchard Primary Language and Communication Support Centre with the object of improving their condition of life.

- Include families, carers and children affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder who do not attend Orchard Primary Language and Communication Support Centre, but reside within North Lanarkshire in both providing practical/emotional support and recreational activities. With the object being inclusion within the local community and improving their condition of life.

**5**

## **Achievements, activities and performance**

_Nobody could have predicted the year we were about to experience. The covid-19 worldwide pandemic affected everyone in many ways. Like the flick of a switch everything changed in work and home life. This brought challenges for the charity and our service users. We had to alter all plans we had for the year and adapt the ways in which we could offer support._

## _March_

In March the charity paid for our trustee , to attend a cycle maintenance course. This enables him to attend and service the trikes/bikes periodically throughout the year and keep them in good condition. does this voluntarily, in his own time. Thank you !

**6**

## _April_

In April as our Saturday club had to be cancelled the charity opened a £100 grant that any of our parent/carers could apply for. The money was to be used to help ease pressures arising from being indoors due to the pandemic. The money was used in a variety of ways from a trampoline, computer games to garden toys.

## _May_

In May we recognized the stresses the pandemic was causing our parents and carers. We therefore hand delivered a bag of wellness to help ease stress and promote wellness to all our carers who wanted one.

**7**

## _June_

In June, with the help of a lottery grant, we were able to give our families a £100 voucher of their choice to again help the children with the pressures of the lockdown. We were able to reach all parents with the help of the school staff contacting families.

## _November_

In November we put a post out to the school asking if there was anything that would benefit the children that we could raise funds for/provide.

We then granted the school £1000 to buy resources for a pedagogy approach to learning. Allowing an alternative way to access education.

**8**

## _December_

In December we were able to surprise all children with a Christmas sack 😊 Filled with family goodies, treats and a voucher. After a trying year they deserved it.

## _February_

In February, following a trustee discussion, we provided the carers who were booked on the carer trip away a voucher with the aim it would achieve the same outcomes as the pre-covid plans. We hope the carers found a way to use it where they could relax and have some time away from their caring role.

## **Support Group**

Throughout the year we were not able to provide face to face support groups due to the pandemic. Instead, we were available via ‘phone, zoom or email. Although many accessed alternative methods of support, we do hope to have face to face support groups up and running as soon as it is safe.

**9**

## **Structure, governance and management**

## _Constitution_

The charity is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). It was registered in its current form on 7[th] February 2017.

Except where this constitution states otherwise, the organisation (and its assets and operations) will be managed by the board; and the board may exercise all the powers of the organisation.

**11**

## **Finances**

Our only source of funding is via fund raising and grants. We are entirely voluntarily run by the board of trustees. We are grateful to school staff, family, friends, and other volunteers who give up their time to support the charity and help in any way they can.

The funds currently held in the charities bank account consists of unrestricted funds to be spent on furthering the charities objectives.

Our receipts and payment accounts were examined by an independent examiner. These were found to be in order and a certificate issued on 20/06/2021.

**12**

## **Future Plans**

Message from the chairperson

At the Annual General Meeting, the board of trustees will be seeing some changes. I, along with vice chair – | , Secretary – fF , Treasurer – P| and trustee pe are all resigning from our position both in office and as a trustee. Our kids have moved on to the next chapter in their lives and I am confident the new board members will continue to carry the charity from strength to strength.

I set the charity up 4 years ago. It has been strong from the get-go with a board of committed trustees who are passionate about autism. It has continued to meet the aims of our constitution over the years.

Looking back at now 4 Trustees Annual reports, we as a team, have achieved so much. We of course could not do it all without supporting each other or without our supportive families – from | previous trustee) mum being our very first donator and allowing us to get started to my own husband Chris supporting me while I was taking a lot of time grant applying, even during the night! Since then, we have received many donations, all of which we are thankful for, and the numerous charitable grants.

As always, the biggest thanks goes to the kids For being the most wonderful of people, teaching us everyday and making this world a better place!
