nbc was awarded funding for this current financial year to continue to fund 2 part-time posts totalling 25hrs/week; Co-ordinator/ Administrator and Events Support Worker. During the financial year the amount of hours paid to teach of these posts was altered, by agreement with the Board of Trustees and the paid staff, in order to meet the growing demands of the running the club.
The paid staff hours for the club are vital in the continuing running of the club to help membérs to get out and about in their communities and beyond to reduce their social isolation and loneliness and support their health and mental wellbeing. Over the last 12 months more of the clubs members have taken up a greater number of the opportunities the club has to offer. nbc continue to listen to the needs and wants of its members to support their growing independence and learn new skills to enhance their everyday living.
nbc Board of Trustees is made up of members of the club, as voted at the AGM, along with a small number of co-opted Trustee who offer professional help and support in the decision making of the club. The co-opted Trustees have no voting rights. Unfortunately the club lost one of its’ Trustees due to a sudden fatal illness. Trustees agreed to re-appoint RE v0 stopped her post of paid Events Support Worker, as a Trustee. Nbe also had to re-appoint the out-going vice-chair after the in-coming vice-chair resigned very shortly after the AGM.
Throughout 2024/2025 nbc have continued to offer regular weekly, fortnightly, monthly and bi-monthly social opportunities to their members including tenpin bowling, Pick and Mix sessions, bingo/ dominoes social evenings, friendship cafes, maintaining our allotment, presenting our radio show “Happy Talk”. The club also provides opportunities for its members to enjoy trips to the theatre and the cinema as well as visiting places of interest both near and far from home. Trips this year have included Botanic Gardens for Christmas Light Trail, M Poppins the Musical, John Muir Museum, Lauderdale Food & Craft Fair , Berwick upon Tweed and Balgone Pumpkin Trail. Nbc have also enjoyed 2 overnight trips to Dumfries House and the Scottish Kelpies in September as well as Scarborough, Pickering NYMR and Whitby in December.
The aspiration to grow the club is very much shown by the enthusiasm our members have in the uptake of all aspects of club life. The club has a number of sub-groups , led by members, to help in the planning and running ofthe[ club][ eg][Funding,][ Membership,][Radio][ and][Allotments.] These sub-groups have given more members the opportunity to become more involved wi the club.
Fundraising continues to give much needed income to the club to help and support with co for resources for the various aspects of the club, as well as covering costs of insurance, fees for the allotments and radio show and general club expenses. The club organised a Sponsor Walk in Portobello and various Christmas Craft Markets. Individual members have now beg their own fundraising initiatives eg selling homemade tablet, selling football cards. As well raising these necessary funds to continue to grow the club, members also share in t opportunity to grow themselves; gaining self-confidence, supporting their mental health learning new skills while building stronger, more supportive friendships and contributing _[their][local][communities.]
nbe have a wide range of members, from 20+ to 70+, with different levels of disabilities, bo physical disabilities and learning disabilities. nbc is one of the most recognised clubs in East
.
Lothian who offer social opportunities to some of the most vulnerable adults in communities.
