Objectives and activities

PIE – Oficina Precaria aims to be a point of relief and empowerment for the sectors of the population affected by economic uncertainty, lack of job security, and social inequality.

We promote equality, diversity, and inclusion for employees in the workplace, patients using the healthcare services, students, home carers, disabled people, a different collectives a non-exhaustive list. Specifically, the migrant population may suffer more distinctively and quickly, as needs to interpret the culture markers as a foreigner.

To provide the most direct support we offer on-appointment advocacy sessions on legal issues, and guidance on the welfare opportunities, every two weeks. The aim is to ease the most urgent problems.

Along with the in-person “one to one” sessions, we organize, promote and develop workshops on current national affairs, job seeking and curriculum building, or emotional intelligence. The objective is to empower and give resources for economic independence and psychological wellbeing.

At PIE - Oficina Precaria we cultivate links to other social groups starting from the place we rent and share, in joint venture with the Autonomous Centre of Edinburgh (SC023946). The way of improving such connections is by designing joint events and sharing a similar agenda on social media.

Achievements and performance

During the fourth year of the charity we have become notably the main grass roots volunteer-run charity within the Spanish-speaking community in Edinburgh, with influence in other parts of Scotland, and public attention in the national territory.

The charity resonates in the local social media channels as a point of contact, and our website grows everyday as a point of reference for resources for newcomers, people alredy settled in the country, or people looking forward to go back home, and want to know the better ewyas to do this.

Our multidisciplinary team has received a continuosu influx of people seeking for guidance and support, specially during the pandemic situation, and the Brexit situation (new migrant status for european residents after brexit).

Also, more people has show its interested in volunteering with us, increasing the volunteers team members.

We have been able to reach more people in vulnerable situation, and offer them support.

In addition, we have been able to acquire a new premises in a new location, which will make easier to meet with our client in a more private environment.

Financial review

Statement of the charity’s policy on reserves

There is no a reserves policy in place. The low income, based solely on donations from events and appointments, calls for a careful expenditure. Movements of monies are discussed in general meeting.

Donated facilities and services

Currently, PIE makes use of a rented space, and the monthly rent can be adjusted to the financial situation of the charities involved.

Future plans

Continue providing support to the community in which we already serve.

Stablish links with other populations, and help them stablish their own, self-sustained Oficina Precaria.

Strengthen the volunteer network, with more volunteers.

Develop a better online presence (with an improved website, and more active social media channels).
