## Structure, Governance and Management. 

The Charity is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) and was registered on 22"° September 2016. The Charity is managed by its committee. 

Governance — Hawick Men’s Shed is governed by its constitution and its policies on equal opportunities, environment, financial management, data protection, trustee recruitment, trustee code of conduct, conflict of interest, health and safety and volunteering. All these have been reviewed over the year to ensure that they are still relevant and reflect any changes made necessary by legislation. An effective management board of trustees is recruited through local media advertising awareness promotions. Unfair discrimination in selection is not employed 

## Activities during 2024/2025 

The Shed is open Monday to Friday mornings, and is quite busy with members 

working on their own projects or helping with jobs that come through the door 

from the local community. Some just come in for a coffee. 

## During this year we have: 

Renovated many garden benches, tables and chairs back to ‘as new ‘ 

Renovated a doll’s house - rewired with new led lights, redecorated, fitted 

new carpet. The annual picture hanging for the art club exhibition. Made several items for The Borders Distillery from old whisky barrel staves. 

Made 10 memory boxes for Dementia group (free of charge) 

The Cribbage group has some new players and is still available to anyone new 

wanting to learn - on a Wednesday afternoon. 

The Ladies Group in the Men’s Shed, get together on Tuesday morning for craft 

activities, Wednesday morning and Wed afternoon for Knitting (and nattering) They have made knee blankets for all the care homes in Hawick, Cot blankets for the special baby unit at the BGH. We now have available several CAD machines. 3 D printer, Laser cutter and 

engraver and a Scan &amp; cut machine which can be used by anyone who has 

been trained. A group meets on Tuesday evening to help each other get to 

grips with this, and any member can come along and learn these new skills. 

We produce items that can hopefully be sold at craft stalls. 

We are now achieving a larger profile on Facebook, more enquiries and 

subsequent requests for jobs to undertake coming from it. Also selling more 

items via Facebook and Gumtree. 

## Funds have also been boosted this year by: - 

Coffee Morning £400 

Car Boots selling donated tools etc. £650 

Donations from: 

Rotary Club of Hawick £800 

Tunes by the Teviot £250 

## Building and Roof 

The leak from the roof/gutter system is still being monitored on a weekly basis, another roof repair has been carried out and the down pipes have been cleaned out. 

## Electric Supply and Water supply 

No Issues Stair Lift The annual service has been carried out and is used by members. 

Lease Extension 

## The lease is on going 

## Recruitment and appointment of trustees 

All of the trustees are appointed or re-appointed by the members at our AGM

## Charitable Purposes 

The aims and objects of the organisation is to provide recreational facilities and organise activities that will increase skills and improve well-being, quality of life and opportunities for the people of Hawick and the surrounding district through camaraderie, inclusion and improve self-esteem. 

## Surplus for Period 

The accounts show that the organisation made a surplus of £286 for the year and has £21,108 in its bank account, of which £949 is restricted and £7,500 is reserved for closing and moving from 7 Lothian Street 

## Reserve Policy 

The Trustees policy is to maintain a modest balance on reserve, not exceeding one years expenditure, sufficient to cove any short-term reduction in funding or unexpected items of expenditure.

Respective the charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance responsibilities of with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the trustees and examiner Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of independent My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts examiner's statement Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide aii the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, | do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts. 1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: 

- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and 

- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations 

have not been met, or 

2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
