ULLAPOOL GARDEN OF REFLECTION TRUSTEES REPORT 2024-2025 The Garden has had a good year. It is in good shape and is looking very beautiful. The early summer was excellent weatherwise, and we have had many visitors, both local and holidaymakers. We have put up a sign with a QR code so visitors are able to make a donation for the upkeep of the Garden on the spot when they are walking around or sitting on one of the many benches. There has been the usual upkeep and maintenance throughout the year. The benches have all been repainted and the boat seats have been re-oiled. The wall at the entrance has also had a new coat of paint. Our steadfast volunteers have been working hard throughout the year with planting, weeding, digging over and watering, and all the other jobs that are needed. The wild garden gave a beautiful display this year and was alive with bees and butterflies that came to visit. The Gazebo roof is still not completed. The gentleman we use for any fabrication work needed has had a problem with one of his machines This means he has not been able to fold the zinc required for the roof but hopefully he will be able to get it done very soon. The mosaic Welcome sign has suffered some weather damage so has had to be removed. Hopefully it can be repaired as it was made with a lot of care by volunteers/friends of the Garden. The Garden has been used quite a few times this year by wedding parties who have asked to come in for photos, and probably to enjoy some “bubbles” after the ceremony, and have been able to make good use of the gazebo for the celebrations. Of course, everyone is welcome and the volunteers make sure the Garden is looking especially good for these special occasions. In October we decorated the Garden with ghosts, spiders, broomsticks, etc. The community were invited to carve a pumpkin and put it along the wall at the entrance to display it. There were quite a few pumpkins dropped off and they looked sufficiently spooky with the little battery night lights glowing inside. In November we had a stall at the annual Bonfire Night event in Ullapool, Hot chocolate and nibbles were laid on and exchanged for a small donation. In December we held the Tractor Night which is becoming a bit of a regular event in the village. The tractors were decorated with lights and took a turn around the village before arriving at the Garden. There was a marquee for refreshments, donkeys and sheep in their pens , and the Ullapool and District Junior Pipe Band came and performed for us. Later we sang carols around the tree. It was a great evening and was very well attended.
As usual there was great support for the event, and a good amount of money was raised, and was shared with Highland Hospice.
We also had a Summer Tea Party with music and refreshments so people could come along and enjoy the Garden and meet up with family and friends.
We still have the beds which are looked after by local groups: Save Our Seniors (a meeting group of people aged over 65), the Dolphin Project (a charity that works with people with Alzheimers, Ullapool Walkers (a walking group), and the College (a group of adults who attend a weekly course at the University of the Highlands and Islands outreach branch in Ullapool).
The High School still uses the Garden for some outdoor classes and is finding the Gazebo an extra attraction particularly during the wetter weather.
In conclusion the Garden is doing very well. It is looked after very well and offers a beautiful space for anyone who wants to sit a while and enjoy the peace and beauty of nature.

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention (other than that disclosed on the attached page*)
1 which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations
