## **Constitution**
The Charity is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (a SCIO). It was registered in its current legal form on 13th July 2016. The Charity was previously an unincorporated association but changed its legal form to a SCIO. The assets of the unincorporated association were transferred to the SCIO on the 13th July 2016. It has a two-tier structure.
## **Appointment of Trustees**
At each Annual General Meeting the members may elect any Member to be a charity trustee. There must be a minimum of three and a maximum of nine trustees. The board may at any time appoint any member (unless he/she is debarred from membership under clause 68 of the Constitution) to be a charity trustee.
At each AGM, all of the charity trustees must retire from office - but may then be re-elected. A charity trustee retiring at an AGM will be deemed to have been re-elected unless:
- he/she advises the board prior to the conclusion of the AGM that he/she does not wish to be re-appointed as a charity trustee; or,
- an election process was held at the AGM and he/she was not among those elected/re-elected through that process; or,
- a resolution for the re-election of that charity trustee was put to the AGM and was not carried.
In addition to their powers under clause 72, the board may at any time appoint any nonmember of the organisation to be a charity trustee (subject to clause 66) either on the basis that he/she has been nominated by a body with which the organisation has close contact in the course of its activities or on the basis that he/she has specialist experience and/or skills which could be of assistance to the board.
## **Objectives & Activities**
As set out in the ‘Constitution’ and ‘The Charities and Trustee Investments (Scotland) Act 2005’ the purpose(s) of Granton: Hub are the following:
- The advancement of education.
- The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science.
● The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended.
- The advancement of environmental protection or improvement.
Any other purpose that may reasonably be regarded as analogous to any of the preceding purposes.

## **Summary of the main activities in relation to these purposes:**
1. To advance the arts by exhibiting and encouraging community involvement in creating art in various forms.
2. To advance heritage by preserving and repurposing historic Madelvic House as a thriving artist/maker-based community hub.
3. To advance culture by encouraging integration of different sectors within the local community through film, exhibitions, talks and community-initiated events.
4. To advance education through provision of a variety of workshops, films, talks and awareness raising activities.
5. To advance environmental protection and improvement through promoting recycling/upcycling and sustainability awareness.
6. To provide a broad range of recreational activities. The hub will provide a welcoming space for people to meet and learn new skills.

## **Achievements & Performance**
## **Notable events arranged by Granton: hub**
Throughout the reporting period, Granton:hub facilitated a wide array of events and initiatives designed to engage the local community, celebrate the area's rich heritage, and encourage participation in the arts. Below is a summary of the key activities conducted between August 2023 and JUly 2024:
**Granton Stories (2023 & 2024).** Over the past two years, Granton:hub has published compelling narratives highlighting the area’s unique history and cultural significance. These stories have served as both an educational resource and a source of inspiration for residents and visitors alike.
**Community Mural Projects (2024)** . A series of mural projects have been undertaken to add vibrancy to Granton’s urban landscape. This included a new mural completed in 2024, accompanied by a community bike ride, which provided an opportunity for residents to connect with the area’s evolving public art scene.
**History Hub Drop-In Sessions (2024)** . The History Hub’s weekly drop-in sessions have offered an accessible way for the community to engage with local history. These sessions have provided both informal learning opportunities and a welcoming space for people to share their own memories and stories.
**Themed Heritage Walks.** Multiple guided walks have been conducted, covering topics such as Granton’s maritime history, its industrial legacy, and the stories of its diverse communities. Notable walks included a Granton Square and Harbour heritage tour, multilingual heritage walks in Arabic, Polish, and English, and mini-walks led by
. These events have not only highlighted the area's heritage but also fostered cultural exchange and understanding.
**Heritage and Public Art Events.** Events like the Granton Gasholder public art event and the “Heritage on the Edge” initiative have drawn attention to the interplay between history and contemporary creative expression. Such activities have played a vital role in bridging past and present, encouraging discussions about the future of Granton’s public spaces.
Through these activities, Granton:hub has continued to build a sense of community pride, encourage collaboration, and ensure that the history and stories of the area remain accessible and meaningful to all.
**Madelvic Gallery.** This monthly exhibitions on the last weekend of the month at Madelvic House continue to offer crucial opportunities for young, emerging, and disabled artists, significantly boosting their professional development and visibility within Edinburgh's

limited exhibition landscape. Between October 2023 and June 2024, Madelvic House hosted 39 artists, including:
- 13 artists with extensive exhibition experience (4+ years)
- 5 recent art graduates with intermediate exhibition experience (≤3 years)
- 21 artists with minimal or no prior exhibition experience
- 2 self-taught artists with high/intermediate exhibition experience
- 1 physically disabled artist and 1 neurodivergent artist
The exhibitions attracted considerable community engagement, with a total of 580 visitors, 9 free public art workshops, and 7 artist talks, film screenings, and demonstrations. Public workshops proved particularly effective for fostering community participation.
Outreach via the Creative Scotland portal directly resulted in 3 exhibited artists, with an additional 6 respondents overall. Word-of-mouth recommendations were equally impactful, leading to exhibitions and further opportunities such as artist residencies, tutoring roles, and studio hire at Madelvic House.
Key highlights from selected exhibitions included:
- "Fungi & Folklore" (Oct 2023): MyCeliart Collective showcased diverse mediums, accompanied by workshops and film screenings.
- "Comfort Zone" (Nov 2023): Solo exhibition by Cerys Scorey, supported by workshops, positively impacted her career direction.
- "Continuous Pour" (Apr 2024): Glasgow Arts Collective's first group exhibition, with fully booked printmaking workshops.
- "Contemporary Closure" (May/June 2024): Extended showcase by Edinburgh College (Telford Campus) students featuring diverse contemporary media and successful public engagement.
Artist testimonies highlighted the exhibition programme's substantial benefits, enhancing their confidence, professional skills, and career ambitions. Overall, the Madelvic Gallery’s monthly exhibitions continue to effectively support artistic careers, provide invaluable public exposure, and foster stronger community engagement in Edinburgh.
**Life Drawing - Art Classes.** Granton:hub organised a successful series of 10 affordable art classes from April to June 2024, focusing on Life Drawing. These sessions attracted 26 participants, including beginners, experienced artists, art students, and teachers. This initiative culminated in a summer exhibition held from 28th to 30th June, showcasing over 18 drawings and paintings created during the classes.
## **Granton:hub GAP Project**
The GAP (Granton Arts Place) project at Granton:hub, launched in 2023, is dedicated to providing a vibrant cultural space for the community. It offers opportunities for residents to

participate in art and heritage activities, fostering local talent, creativity, and connection. The project supports an array of workshops, exhibitions, and events aimed at bringing people together through shared artistic experiences. By making creative activities accessible to all, the GAP project plays a crucial role in strengthening community bonds and celebrating the unique cultural heritage of Granton.
## **Other activities hosted by Granton: hub, in line with our purposes**
Our three studios are licensed to three local artists.
Three rooms are regularly booked by local residents, a meditation group, yoga classes, art classes, and violin classes, supporting ongoing community engagement and enhancing social cohesion within Granton.

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with
the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment {Scotlandl 2<5 Act and the Charities
Accounts {Scotland) Regulations 2(NJ6. The charity trustees consider that the audit
requirement of Regulation 1011) Idl ofthe Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my
responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44111 {c) of the Art and to
stste whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent exarninerf5 Statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts
(Scotlandl Regulations 21X)6. An examination indudes a review of the accounting record5
kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also
indude5 consideration of any unusual items or disdosures in the accounts and seek5
