Report on the draft 2024 Financial report of Network of Photographers for Palestine

I have now been able to analyse the information in the .csv file as well as other documents that you provided and compare it to the bank statements and the draft Financial Report.

Overall I can confirm that the figures recorded as Total Income and Total Expenditure in the Draft Financial Report do match the totals of monies credited to and debited from the NPfP Bank account during the period in question. The total quantum of turnover can thus be verified.

I can also confirm that there is supporting evidence for all the expenditure made as donations via Currencies Direct totalling £39,719.42 with the recipients clearly identified.

• The absolute value of the payments for which I have been unable to identify supporting documents is: • £887.65 of Income out of a total income in the period of £39,176.32 so 2.23%

• £2,581.34 of expenditure out of a total expenditure in the period of £43,331.86 so 5.96%

However, the draft Financial Report groups the vast majority of items of both Income and of Expenditure [88.9% and 90.4% respectively] under headings of “Humanitarian Funds Projects” and “Funding for People”.

There are neither notes nor any other signifiers which indicate:

• which elements of income from “Golden giving” or “F/Flow” etc are for “Humanitarian Funds Projects” as opposed to “Funding for People” [many donations are marked with the name of the donor and “Gaza Donation”].

• where the payments from HMRC [presumably “Gift Aid”?] are allocated

• which payments via Currencies Direct are for the “Humanitarian Funds Projects” as opposed to “Funding for People”

• how memberships were collected or how they were paid into the bank account

• the number of Calendars sold nor the basis on which they were sold [were some sold at a discount to a retailer? Is there a discount if I buy more than one etc etc?]

• the basis on which the costs of the visit by to Scotland were agreed in advance. I note that aside from a bus ticket no expenditure was incurred within Scotland

• which costs should be allocated to “Edinburgh Photo Exhibition”

• proof of expenditure for the PDF Editor software. It is not clear if or how the Organisation owns this licence.

It is not for me to allocate the various instances of income and expenditure to the various headings in the draft Financial Report that you have produced far less for me to try and guess which should go where.

I cannot therefore verify that the allocation of monies is as claimed in the Draft Financial Report.

The most likely explanation for the absence of supporting evidence is that the NPfP is a small organisation with limited administrative resource operating under significant levels of stress given the backdrop of the awful suffering of the Palestinian people in the period under review. However, OSCR may require greater clarity.

More importantly a small note at the bottom of a document supplied to me later in the process shows that monies were being held at the end of 2023 which were earmarked for disbursement in 2024. The draft financial report seems to indicate that almost £850 was held at the end of 2024 on a similar basis. I would strongly advise opening separate accounts for each of the different collection streams so that it is easier to demonstrate that funds are “ring-fenced” one from another. It would also make it easier to demonstrate how these funds were then spent.

It is for the Trustees to demonstrate that the monies raised via Fundraising are dispersed for the purposes specified when the funds were raised.

I undertook to provide a check that you have the evidence to support the Financial Report which you will need to provide to both your members and to the OSCR. At this stage I lack the supporting information to be able to issue any such assurance.

2024 NPP Chairman’s Report

NPP passed its tenth year of photographic activism by taking on the challenges of the ongoing genocide and accelerating Nakba in 2024 directly.

The horrific and deteriorating destruction of Gaza and its civilian population has touched us personally. One of our colleagues, , was “disappeared” by the IOF early after Oct.7 and is now presumed dead. The family of another colleague and Board member, , was not only displaced from their home and forced to live in a tent, they were separated from their wife/mother for over a month when she was detained by Israeli authorities.

The genocide required us once again to expand our scope beyond photography by initiating successful direct fundraisers for Gaza, by expanding our webinar series of talks on a variety of topics with well-known experts and activists in Palestine and Europe and by continuing our efforts to develop collaborations with other groups.

Our treasurer, , and one of our photographers, , have

spectacularly taken the lead in raising Gaza relief funds through a variety of communitycentered events such as sponsored dinner parties and then passing the funds on to our contacts in Gaza. Together they raised a whopping £40,000 for water well digging projects and direct distribution to families in need!

Like last year, our 2025 calendar sold out with the help of Hadeel in Edinburgh, and in - Germany, NPP board member Deutsch Palästinensischen Gesellschaft

helped sell out another huge number of calendars. Most of the proceeds have also been contributed to these relief funds. Outside of the scope of NPP, both our Chairman, , and Secretary, Junnor, raised funds on their own. held a sale of his art in San Francisco raising almost US$1500 which he donated to the Rebuilding Alliance. And has raised over £1000 per month since November 2023 for a family in Gaza.

In 2024, we strengthened our growing reputation as a webinar organizing powerhouse! Showing just how dangerou5 the situation is in the West Bank one of our guests, from Hebron, was sent to the hospitaL arter being assaulted by Palestinian Authority thu85. Undeterred, however, Issa re-scheduLed his taLk. After screening A State of Danger , we spoke with its director, the Israeli filmmaker, photographer, SOAS professor, , who has also been very active speaking in the streets of the UK.

In June we joined together students from Bir Zeit University, al-Quds University, Edinburgh University and UC Berkeley for an enlightening discussion of the student anti-genocide movement and successful strategies. Finally, but not so finally, our webinar with and student , both victors over official censorship attempts, was “bombed” by one aliased as . What a way to learn we are being taken

We welcomed , a young Palestinian photographer and filmmaker, to Scotland to present his documentary work on the endangered communities in Masafer Yatta in the South Hebron Hills.

As alluded to earlier, NPP is now entering its 11[th] year. To commemorate NPP’s first ten years, we have put together Ten Years On, a book of about 40 photographs from our various members and colleagues, and . written by our co-founder Although holds no official title on the Board, his fingerprints are all over everything we have done. Demonstrating the Board’s commitment to justice for Palestine, many of us are active beyond our NPP roles. Our secretary, has taken Glasgow by storm with her indefatigable energy and impassioned speeches. Eternally committed is active with Deutsch-Palästinensischen Gesellschaft (DPG) i n her home country of Germany, has helped produce some NPP to

webinar collaborations with DPG members and she even accompanied Stockholm to receive the Right Livelihood Award .

is always on the lookout for exhibition, collaboration and writing opportunities. participates with Highland-Palestine. And photographically documents Palestine solidarity actions in San Francisco, is in the process of organizing California photographers to produce an exhibition on Gaza and has made several presentations to students at universities in Palestine (via Zoom) and California.
