Reach Across is a not for profit charity set up in memory of the Chairpersons son, who died by suicide (drowning) in 2013. It was clear that locally there was no support available for families and friends in this devastating situation. Reach Across has moved twice and now has a facility where supports can be delivered under one roof. There are three therapy rooms, used for counselling and initial hour long 1:1 discussions following referrals. We are person centred and get to know the people we support well. There is a large hall where activities, such as group work take place, We have extended our opening hours on weekdays for people in distress so that they can receive support promptly. We are open 09.30-16.00 and volunteers man the office. There are 30 volunteers and we have commenced work to secure a paid post due to the growth of need for our services. We highly value our 1:1 support, for example we fund holistic therapies. All supports are free to those in need.
Objectives: 4.1 Support people and/or groups with learning/physical disabilities and mental health issues such as suicidal thoughts, providing funding for such people to access cultural events or support to increase community engagement and confidence. Carers will also be considered for funding if caring for a person who has such disabilities. 4.2 Promote opportunities for people who have disabilities, of whatever form, to learn and develop creative skills and use them within their local communities. The advancement of the art, heritage, culture or science. This will include the provision of recreational activities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended. 4.3 The relief of those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. This will include raising awareness of the impact stigma has upon people who have mental health issues or disabilities.
